Rachel Sabo Obituary

SABO Rachel Collins Sabo went to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 23, 2013 peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born June 10, 1940 in Dossville, MS to Allen Collins and Rowena Roby Basco. She grew up in New Orleans, LA with her mother and step-father, Samuel Basco. She lived the majority of her life in and around New Orleans, LA. She moved to the West Bank of New Orleans in 1970. She worked as a material coordinator for the Chevron Corporation from which she retired in January 2002. Hurricane Katrina in 2005 prompted her move to Baytown, TX where she had since resided with her sister. Rachel's lifelong passions included her children and grandchildren, whom lovingly referred to her as Maw Maw. She also enjoyed cooking Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and many dinners in between for her family and friends. Her remaining passion was unselfishly spent on her New Wine Christian Church family for whom she always had a piece of gum or mint to share. She will be remembered by all for her loving and giving spirit that was most content to serve her Lord Jesus Christ. Rachel Sabo is preceded in death by her brothers James Edward Collins, Allen Collins, Jr., Douglas Collins, and Frederick Collins; and also by her granddaughter, Ciara Rowena Ann Quinn. She leaves behind three sisters Elaine Collins of Baytown, TX, Patricia Davis of Kiln, MS, and Vanessa Sylvia of Violet, LA; two daughters, Shirley Houser of Baytown, TX and Kendra Quinn of Chicago, IL; and one son, Ed Sabo of Baytown, TX; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. A memorial service will be held at New Wine Christian Church in Baytown, TX on Saturday, June 22nd at 12:00 noon for all family and friends. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
