Raymond became a dear friend to me over the last 8 years. He had a passion for everything he did, or else he didn´t do it! (lovingly stubborn and a man of conviction-which he never hesitated to discuss or debate with an engaging party). Raymond tried to spread his love for music among everyone who knew him. He loved introducing new tunes to people and I, for one, learned a great deal from him and gained a new appreciation for certain genres of music. Music to him was more than a collection of notes-it was an expression of feeling that exuded from the heart and soul. I enjoyed hearing him reminisce about what age he was and where he was when he first heard an old song. Then he´d run out the next day and buy himself that 45 and play it endlessly while sitting on the living room floor. Raymond wasn´t interested in researching his ancestry-he was unquestionably an American (from New Orleans!!!). No need for any other labels as far as he was concerned. None of us will experience another Mardi Gras without thinking of Raymond. He is forever part of us, and I feel fortunate to say so. He and I shared our politics and spent the last two presidential elections texting. I´ll miss that this year.
