Richard James Patrick Hampton

Richard James Patrick Hampton passed away peacefully at his home on July 12, 2023 at the age of 94. He was a lifelong native of New Orleans and joins his beloved wife Jacqueline Hampton, his parents Agnes and Ernest Pat Hampton, his brother Ernest Jr. (Rita), sister Miriam Duvall (Reynolds), brother Oswald Hampton (Sue), Jerry Hampton (Pat), and his granddaughter-in-law Elizabeth Lopez Hampton. He is survived by his sons Richard Jr. (Karen), Terry (Marian), Daniel, his daughters Gail Reuther (Robert), Vickie Eagle (Steven) and Darlene Elmer (Paul). He is also survived by his grandchildren Jennifer, Richard III, David, Terry Jr., Kristy, Michelle, Robert Jr., Steven Jr., Matthew, Amber, Danielle, Jacqueline, Paul Jr., Joseph, Michael, Kathleen and his great-grandchildren Lucas, Jena, Robert III, Jaxson, Jason, Jacquelyn, Jenna, Jordan, James, Josephine. He worked 30 years at Security Industrial Insurance, a veteran of World War II with the U.S. Merchant Marines and enjoyed meeting with his lifelong friends as a member of the Friends of the Sacred Heart. He would often entertain us all with his amazing recollections of family events that went as far back as his childhood. His strength and resilience throughout all the health issues he faced never ceased to impress and embolden all who knew and loved him. He was as loving as he was tough. The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to his nurse Georgette and Heart of Hospice. Visitation will be held at Jacob Schoen and Son Funeral Home located at 3827 Canal Street, New Orleans, 70119 on Monday, July 24. The Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m., services will follow at 10:00 a.m., and burial will be at St. Patrick III Cemetery.
