Richard Lane, Sr. Obituary

Richard T. Lane, long time resident of Fallon, Nevada, quietly passed away June 26, 2019 after a short illness, at the age of 86.

Born to Albert Truman and Esther Caroline (Schierholz) Lane on April 26, 1933 in Los Angeles California. He was married to Dolores Ann (McKenzie) Lane.

His life was filled with lifelong friendships from:

School days in Carson City, class of 1951, where he held multiple football and track records
Worked for the State Treasury
13 years for the State of Nevada (Deputy Director of Buildings and Grounds)
Several years as a heavy equipment operator and mechanic
A Civil Engineer for the Civil Service at Fallon Naval Base, where he was responsible for all ground surfaces

He was also an active member and volunteer in the Carson City Fire Department, Civil Air Patrol and Toast Masters. During this time, he also served in the US Navy Seabees Reserves where he earned the rank of Master Chief (E9). During Desert Storm he was called to active duty where he served in Bahrain (1990-1991). After serving for 28 years, he retired from the United States Navy in March 1993.

His love of adventure made him a fantastic storyteller. Many who knew him enjoyed hearing about his knowledge of Nevada and his adventures. In his retirement he added to these experiences participating regularly with the Silver Sage Good Sam’s Club and the Desert Oasis Trail Riders ATV Group.

He is survived by his wife Dolores, his children, Janice Eakin (Steve), Richard “Rusty” Jr. (Eve), Deanne Lestelle (Dan), 7 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren, and brother Donald Lane (Barbara).

A Military Service will be held at Smith Family Funeral Home in Fallon, Nevada on July 12th, 2019 at 2:00 p.m., with CW04 Russell Hucks USN RET. Officiating.
