Richard Patterson Obituary

PATTERSON Richard Joseph Patterson, age 63, of Kenner, Louisiana, a decorated veteran of the Vietnam War and a tour of duty in the Dominican Republic, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 6, 2011. Born in New Orleans, LA on March 20, 1948, he was the son of the late Ray A. Roy and Lillian Jacomette Roy, and Vincent A. Patterson. He is survived and beloved by his wife of 40 years, Peggy Volk Patterson; his son, Sean Patterson and daughter-in-law, Camilla West; siblings: Vincent (Pat) Patterson, Jr., Ray Roy, Jr. (and sister-in-law Beth), Mark Roy (and sister-in-law Lori), Liz Ann Roy Weaver (and brother-in-law Roger), Kerry Roy, Darlene Roy Maresma (and brother-in-law Allen), and Rae Ann Roy Oxley; numerous nieces and nephews; and even a few great-nieces and great-nephews. At his request, there will be no wake or funeral. Please celebrate his life in any way you feel would honor him. Go to Mass, or raise a glass. Cheer for the Saints, even if they're losing bad. Listen to a little Louis Prima or Jesus Christ Superstar. Watch M*A*S*H, Fawlty Towers, or some old Richard Pryor or George Carlin routines. Get yourself a big ol' steak or a pile of crawfish. Go fishing. Pet a puppy dog. Laugh. Memorials in his name may be made to Vietnam Veterans of America (www.vva.org), the National League of POW/MIA Families (www.pow-miafamilies.org), Girl Scouts Louisiana East (www.gsle.org), or any other charity you prefer.
