ROCK HILL - Mr. Richard Landrum Shores, 81, passed away Saturday, Feb. 19, at his home.
Graveside services will be conducted at 1 p.m., Friday, Feb. 25, at Sharon United Methodist Church Cemetery, 1421 Reidville Sharon Road, Greer, S.C., with the Rev. Claire Yoder officiating.
Born in Spartanburg, S.C., Richard was the son of the late Carl Landrum and Addie Dorothy Burwell Shores and the widower of the late Mary Alice Snow Shores. He attended Clemson College from 1949-1952 and graduated with a B.S. Degree in Textile Management. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and a member of Woodlawn United Methodist Church where he was a former member of the choir. Richard worked in the printing division of Riegel Textiles in Ware Shoals from 1956-1969 after which he worked, until his retirement, as manager of the screen print and engraving department of Rock Hill Printing & Finishing Company from 1969-1998. He was a Past Master of Ware Shoals #306 A.F.M and a former member of the Ware Shoals Jaycees.
After retiring, he loved nothing more than becoming a full-time nanny and chauffeur for his grandchildren. Richard will be greatly missed by many, including his fellow water-walkers at the YMCA and those he always joined in the "coffee and cookie club" after exercising. Tuesday and Thursday lunches at The White Horse Ltd. restaurant will not be the same as he had dined there on those days for over 25 years. The Ebinport Elementary School staff will remember him for his many years of service in the safety patrol even after his children had gone on to higher education.
Surviving are his son and daughter-in-;law, James R. and Barb Eason Shores; and three grandchildren, Tara, Austin and Kevin Shores, all of Rock Hill; his brother, Carl David Shores of Fernandina Beach, Fla; his sister, Elizabeth Carter of Spartanburg, S.C.; and five nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, Richard was preceded in death by a son, John Snow Shores.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 24, 2011 at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, 2133 Ebenezer Road, Rock Hill, SC 29732.
Memorials may be made to YMCA-Upper Palmetto Corporate Office, 361 Charlotte Avenue, Rock Hill, SC 29730.
