Robert Allen Obituary

LTC Robert Windham Allen, 55, of Slidell, LA, passed away on Monday, August 19, 2024 after a two-year battle with cancer. Robert was born on September 13, 1968, to Marcie Rhinehart Allen and Robert Charles Allen in Dothan, AL. After he graduated from O. Perry Walker High School in 1988, he went on to study Criminal Justice at Loyola University. In 2003 he earned his Masters of Business Administration in Social Sciences from Loyola University. Robert started his military career in 1988 with the United States Marine Corps. He later joined the Louisiana National Guard in 1999. Robert served a long military career where he deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan) and Operation Inherent Resolve (Iraq/Syria). Most recently Robert was assigned as the Deputy Inspector General for Marine Forces Reserve/South in New Orleans, LA and was the Battalion Commander of the 415th Military Intelligence Battalion for the Louisiana National Guard. Robert began his law enforcement career in 1992 with the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office and served as an investigator with the Jefferson Parish District Attorney's Office. Robert began serving the Slidell community with the Slidell Police Department in 2016. Additionally, his law enforcement experience includes serving as a member of the United Nations Police Mission in Kosovo and as a counterintelligence special agent with the Department of Defense. Robert also served as a personal security specialist for the U.S. State Department's Worldwide Person Protection Service in Israel and Afghanistan from 2004-2015. If all of this wasn't enough, Robert also taught Risk Management and Threat Assessment at the graduate school of Tulane University School of Professional Advancement. LTC Robert W. Allen was posthumously awarded the Meritorious Service Medal and will receive the Legion of Merit for exceptionally meritorious service in the Louisiana National Guard, demonstrating outstanding leadership, initiative, and dedication to duty. Robert spent a combined 35 years in service of his community and country. Robert is survived by his mother, Marcie Rhinehart of Dothan, AL; his brother, Robert C. Allen (Sonya) of Montclair, VA; his nephew, Hunter Allen and niece, Alyssa Allen of Montclair, VA. He is also survived by his longtime partner, Kelly Guerra as well as a host of cousins, adopted family members, and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Col. Robert C. Allen of Eutawville, SC. Robert was a lover of life, living, and always had a smile on his face; with an infectious laugh that his friends and family will remember forever. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the American Cancer Society in the name of Robert Windham Allen. Sadly, I am just hearing about this. We never got to meet as planned, but I felt like we knew each other through Facebook. Robert was a patriot of honor, distinction, and service. He is sorely missed by those who knew him and even guys like me who never had the pleasure to meet him. This is difficult, but Roll Tide! Semper Fidelis and requiescat in pace.

LTC Robert Allen, known as "Rob" to me, was a dear friend in high school. Over the years we have reconnected over Facebook to encourage each other in life, as well as, a playful rival between L.S.U. & BAMA. He had such a kind heart towards friends and family. I am so thankful for his deep love and service for our country. His accomplishments in life impacted and helped so many people; it is wonderful to leave such a respectful legacy. My deepest sympathy for his family. Sincerely, Becky Styron

I served with LTC Allen in the Alabama National Guard when we were both assigned to the 167th Theater Sustainment Command Special Troops Battalion. Everyone has people who come into their lives seemingly at random times that make such a positive difference that they will never be forgotten. LTC Allen was one of those people in my life. It was impossible to have a bad day with him around. His spirit was one of continuous hope and blessing. He was intelligent, congenial and, above all, a true patriot and brother in arms. I have some gemstones that he brought me from one of his trips to Afghanistan. I treasure the memories I have of his eternally optimistic attitude and sense of humor. Rest in peace, sir.

I served with Rob in the US Government. He was better known as Spanky. He was my mentor for many aspects of my professional and personal life. This is a tough loss for many. I’m going to miss our long conversations about how one day Arkansas football will beat Alabama. Spanky was the truest of warriors. Always willing lend an ear, give advice when warranted, and always told you straight up how he saw things. I love you brother and will miss you dearly.
