Robert Dean Obituary

Robert David Dean passed away peacefully with his wife of 43 years by his side on February 27, 2023. He had a brief but brave battle with cancer. He was 68. Robert was born in New Orleans and was a resident of Old Jefferson since 2006. He was preceded in death by his parents James E. Dean Jr. and Mary Lou Hillman. He is survived by his wife, Lori-Beth Umbdenstock Dean and his brother James L. Dean. Robert was Uncle Robert/Robbie to many nieces and nephews and he loved them dearly. Growing up on 40th Street in New Orleans, he attended Lakeview School, Sam Barthe's School for Boys, Beauregard Junior High School, and John F. Kennedy High School. He obtained a BA from Nicholls State and taught at Edna Karr Middle School and John F. Kennedy High School. After training to be a radiology technologist at Delgado Community College, he worked at several hospitals in New Orleans and retired from Ochsner Hospital in Kenner. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service at Grace Lutheran Church, 5800 Canal Blvd., New Orleans, 70124, on Saturday, March 18, 2023 at 1:00 PM with visitation before the service at 12:30 PM. A light lunch will follow the service in the fellowship hall. The family would like to thank the staff at Compassus Hospice for the compassion and kindness that they showed Robert in his final days. A big thank you to his nurses, Maria and Erin and a very special thank you to his CNA, Bertha, whom he loved dearly. Bertha, here's your reminder from Pops, and I quote, "Don't let anybody rob you of your JOY!" Lori would also like to thank the Sisters from Sisters Servants of Mary, especially Sister Lucero and Sister Juliette who were able to provide her with several nights of uninterrupted and worry-free sleep for which she was very grateful. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Robert's memory to: Grace Lutheran Church, 5800 Canal Blvd., New Orleans, LA 70124 or Sisters Servants of Mary, 5001 Perlita St., New Orleans, LA 70122-1999
