This morning I received an ad for Ancestry that also informed me my old childhood neighbor Bob DeViney had passed away in 2011. I would like to say that living nextdoor to Bob, Zip, Michael, Miss Susan and Mr DeViney from 1958-1962 was like living in a joyful sitcom. My sister, Toni and I were 2 young girls with a strict Mom and no dad(deceased when we were small). Our teenaged neighbors Bob & Zip were always destined for greatness in entrepreneurialship & politics. Michael was too young to predict at the time. My sister and I went to Catholic school, Ursuline Academy. Michael and Zip went to East Jeff High. The boys drove cars, but Toni and I were 2 years younger respectively so we did not.
Bobby was always busy with a school or student political activity and mature beyond his years. Zip was a fan of Richard Nixon, for whom he argued with me. Being a Catholic young woman, I thought John F Kennedy was made in Heaven.
ob went off to Southeasten in Hammond for college, where he became politically involved in student governent. Even though welost touch with theDeViney boys, the man I ultimately met at LSU and wed was Budy Wade from Alabama. Ironically,he was friends with the Deineys at Southeastern, before he transferred to LSU. So I learned that Bob was persuing his path fo business & politics. What a wonderful teen he was and I got to know him in his formative years.
My sister Toni, who lived in Robert LA, has passed. Zip I miss her terribly as I know you miss your older brother Bobby. You were both wonderful men, raised by great parents. Cindy Hagstette Wade

Bob has been a good friend for 30 years, yet we haven't seen one another for quite a while. But he was one of the most vibrant, bigger than life people I ever knew. He was a great Republican, and some of my favorite politcal memories were of his, and later my crawfish boils. he was a master PR man, and just an all around good guy. My prayers go out for Bob and all of his family. We'll miss you, Bob DeViney.

Back in the late 70s, I interviewed Bob many times when I was a reporter - a wonderful man, public servant, even friend. I lost touch after moving to Pittsburgh, PA but when my dad died in 2007, Bob found me on the internet and hand wrote the most beautiful letter, plus he reminded me he was born nearby in Oil City, Pennsylvania. I still have that letter. RIP, friend.

Our childhood bliss is gone.
Future blessings did unfold,
As time passed on.

Each one that came your way,
brought joy, success and love,

I want to express my deepest condolences to Bob's family for their loss. Bob was truly an inspirational leader; there was never an issue to which he did not see a solution. A "mover and shaker," Bob's enthusiasm as a public servant was undeniable, especially his love of Lafreniere Park. A true difference maker, he was instrumental in securing state funds used to build the pavilion that has become the symbol of the park today. While still on the Parish Council, he joined the Foundation Board and served a term as Chairman to continue his efforts to secure private sector donations for future capital projects.

Not only will Bob be missed deeply by his loved ones and all those who knew him, the community he served so willingly and with vigor will also feel his absence.

I offer the entire DeViney family my deepest sympathy on the loss of Bob. I had the privilege to be in his company on many occasions over the past 40 years and I’ve always enjoyed his style and demeanor – he was at all times pleasant and polite.

I know it will be a huge transition for the family; but, I hope you will find (some) comfort in the fact that Bob was a great guy, enjoyed his friends & family and always seemed to find the decent side of any situation. I know he's in a great place.

Our sympathy to the family of Bob DeViney. I know that he will be missed by his loved ones.
My family lived next door when Bob and Zip were in high school and Michael was young. My sister and I thought of those boys as the brothers, we never had. Ms. Sue, as she was known to us, was such a cool mom. That house always had kids visiting.
The DeVineys went to East Jefferson and we went to Ursuline Academy. The boys and my sister Toni, went on to Southeastern, where Bob was a shining star. Even Buddy Wade, from Moody Alabama, the man I would later meet at LSU and marry, knew Bob De Viney.

Bob was so bright and ambitious. We always knew he would be successful. He probably has Heaven organized and productive.

After graduating from EJ High Bob, Ronnie Siegal and I were roommates during our first semester at Southeastern. What a blast we had! A couple of semesters later Harry (Zip) and I were suite mates in another dorm.

Bob's parents were wonderful people and raised three outstanding boys.

After college we went on our separate career paths and lost touch. Over the years I have often thought of the DeViney family and realized that by not keeping in touch has been my loss!
