Robert Louis Gourdon

1934 - 2021

Robert Louis Gourdon (Bob, Bobby, Poppa) resident of Slidell, was born October 12, 1934 in New Orleans, LA, and died September 8, 2021 at Tampa General Hospital in Fla. while evacuated for Hurricane Ida. Beloved husband, father & grandfather, Bob passed away peacefully with his wife Barbara & daughter Cindy by his side. Bob was a United States Air Force Veteran, serving from 1955-1959 in Japan. Later in life he also served on a Naval Ship as a merchant marine. Bob was married to the love of his life, Barbara, on July 1, 1966 with whom he spent the next 55 years doting on his children & grandchildren. He enjoyed woodworking, crafting beautiful wooden toys for his grandchildren, as well as his other passion, building & flying model airplanes. Bob was an active member of the Tammany Aero Club and enjoyed competing in free flight model airshows. He was the only manufacturer/supplier of hand carved model airplane propellers that he shipped worldwide from his home-based workshop.He was preceded in death by mother; Alma Bernius, father; Maxime Gourdon, sister; Joan Kling, son; Edmond Louis Gourdon Sr., and granddaughter; Kathryn Susanne Buxton. He is survived by wife; Barbara Goudeaux Gourdon, daughter; Cindy (Cynthia) Gourdon Homrighausen (Philip), son-Christopher Jones, stepchildren-Linda Buxton, Robert Roth Sr. (Angela), Debra Loupe (Myron), grandchildren-Brian Loupe, Amanda Fleetwood, Shana Loupe, Ashley Wariner, Laura Buxton, Edmond Gourdon Jr., Seth Gourdon, Robert Roth Jr., Alexandra Homrighausen, Shelby Roth, Linda & Daniel Jones as well as twelve great grandchildren. Memorial Service will be held Friday September 24, 2021 at 10:00am immediately followed by a celebration of life at The Village Lutheran Church 29180 Hwy., 190 Lacombe, La 70445. Burial at 12:30 SELA Veterans Cemetery 34888 Grantham College Dr. Slidell, LA.
