Robert Seymour Holden

1925 - 2017

Robert Seymour Holden, 91 of West Chester Pa ,formerly of Malvern Pa, died April 26, 2017 at his home surrounded by family.
Born July 17, 1925 in Upper Darby Pa, he was the son of the late Seymour Holden and Nellie (Balitz) Holden.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 68 years, Lillian E.(Hirnisey) Holden, his eldest son Robert S. Holden Jr, and great grandson Jack R. Klimik.
He was a graduate of Upper Darby High school and after graduation he enlisted in the Marines at the age of 17.
Mr. Holden served as a corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps during WWII. Aboard the U.S.S. Santa Fe CL60, in the Pacific, he saw 17 battles and earned 6 awards. Upon completion of the war Mr. Holden enrolled at Penn State and graduated with a degree in engineering.
Mr. Holden went to work in sales and service for several heavy equipment companies. He worked hard and earned his pilots license, flying for Chester County Equipment. He raised his family in the Malvern area.
Mr. Holden loved the water. He took his love for sailing and became part of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary. He served from 1995-2012 with Flotilla 054-12-02 of Painter Va. and retired with Flotilla 070-11-10 of Dunedin Fl.
He is survived by his daughter, Dale Holden Lockwood and husband Michael of West Chester; his son Thomas E. Holden and wife Shauna of Morgantown; son Charles Holden of Irmo SC; son David Holden of Clearwater FL; and daughter in law Dell Holden of Downingtown. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren; Brian Burkhart, Ashley (Holden) Klimik, Amanda Holden, Matthew Lockwood, Nikki Holden, Thomas R. Holden, Christopher Holden, Kyle Holden, Charles Holden II, Zachary Holden and seven great grand children.
Service and burial with military honors will be on May 13,2017 at 11 am, Philadelphia Memorial Park Frazer Pa.
