Robert O'Brien Obituary

O'BRIEN Robert "Bobby" Charles O'Brien, Jr. passed away at his home on Friday, March 4, 2011 at the age of 77. His final days were spent surrounded by family and friends that he had touched in some way throughout his life. He is the beloved husband of 57 years to Gloria Chanove O'Brien. Loving father of Patrick O'Brien, Michael O'Brien (husband of Nicole), Timothy O'Brien (husband of Donna) and the late Robert O'Brien III and Cathleen Bowers. Son of the late Ethalmae and Robert O'Brien Sr. Brother of Jacquelyn "Jackie" O'Brien. Proud grandfather of Christopher (husband of Megan), Rachael, Brant, Dominick, Cullen and Ava. Great grandfather of McKinley and Madelyn. Robert was a native of New Orleans, LA and a longtime resident of St. Bernard Parish, prior to Hurricane Katrina, where he served as a Marksman for St. Marks Church, a Marshall at Eastover and a respected Equipment Operator for Local 406 at the New Orleans Superdome. He will be forever remembered as a loving and loyal husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, who loved his work, but treasured his family above all else. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation to be held at ST. BERNARD MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA on Thursday, March 10th, 2011 from 10:00AM - 1:00PM, followed by a Funeral Mass beginning at 1:00PM. Burial will follow in St. Bernard Memorial Gardens. My condolence to Bobby's family on their loss. I am so sad to hear this news. I grew up in the lower 9th ward (Sam Bernard Park)during the 40s - 51 and had the opporunity to know Bobby. I was 4 years younger however he was an important mentor in my younger years. My prayers are with you.
