Ronald Maurice Williams

1937 - 2023

Ronald Maurice Williams, 86, of Slidell, Louisiana, passed away on Tuesday, November 28, 2023, in Covington, Louisiana. Ron was born May 5, 1937, in Slidell, Louisiana, to Maurice and Sara Broom Williams. In 1960, he married Lillian Leatherbury in Lacombe, Louisiana. He was preceded in death by his parents, Maurice and Sara Broom Williams; siblings, Doris D. Olivier, Margie D. Moran, Norman J. Dubuisson, Bessie D. Pike, and Vivian D. Talley. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Lillian Anita Leatherbury Williams; a daughter, April Anita Williams Riegler (Jerold); two grandchildren, Sara Anita Riegler, Joshua Maurice Riegler; sister, Beverly W. Sweetman; nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Ron served in the United States Army for two years, then worked for Boeing Aerospace and lastly worked Lockheed Martin until his retirement. Ron lived his life to the fullest. He was always busy, whether it was raking leaves, washing clothes, or tinkering. He loved fishing, traveling, and watching the Saints with long-time friends; but his passion was camping. Upon Lillian's retirement, they began their second careers as campground hosts at Kettle Moraine State Park in east central Wisconsin in order to be close to April's growing family. After that they helped run a lodge/supper club in the same area. Finally, they became work campers at Plymouth Rock Camping Resort near the shores of Lake Michigan. Although they retired from work camping, Ron and Lillian remained at Plymouth Rock for four months each summer for twenty years in order to watch firsthand their grandchildren grow up and teach fellow campers how Southerns fry turkeys and catfish. Ron oversaw all of the couple's travel arrangements. His itineraries included camping and exploring most of the states in the United States and six continents. The couple visited places from Seattle to Key West and parts in between. They also traveled to places from Sidney, Australia to St. Petersburg, Russia and from the Panama Canal to the Great Wall of China. Collecting memories was more important to Ron than collecting material possessions. Ron leaves behind many friends and family who loved him. He led a good life, with a faithful spirit and integrity. Ron will always be loved, always be missed, and always be remembered. Memorial Services will be held at Honaker Funeral Home, 1751 Gause Blvd West, Slidell LA 70460, on Monday, December 11, 2023. Visitation will begin at 9:00am followed by the memorial service at 11:00am. Burial will be in Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery.
