Rosaria Cangelosi Drago

Rosaria Cangelosi Drago, 94, died peacefully in her sleep April 17, 2023. Sara, as she was known to family and friends, was born in Cefalu, Sicily, to the late Frank and Lydia Schattino Cangelosi. She grew up surrounded by war and poverty and was determined to build a better life for her family. She married Salvatore (Sam) Drago, a barber. Her husband traveled to the US while she was pregnant with their first child Sammy and soon arranged for passage for his family. She traveled on a ship with her infant son and was greeted in New York harbor by Lady Liberty. The Dragos first lived in Alexandria, Louisiana, where a second child, Angela Mary Drago, was born. They moved to New Orleans and later established a home in Metairie. She was reunited with her parents when they immigrated to the United States. Throughout her life, Sara was dedicated to taking care of her family and friends. She loved to garden, cook and sew. She is preceded in death by her husband, with whom she shared 64 years of marriage, her son Sammy and her parents. She is survived by her daughter and son in law Angie and Peter Bonura, two grandchildren Christian Drago Bonura (Verena Benker) and Nicole Bonura Ballas (Jerry Ballas) and four great-grandchildren Sophia Morris, Benedikt Bonura, Max Morris and Emilia Bonura and two sisters in law Josie Provenza and Lena Tommey. The family wishes to thank the staff of Restoration Senior Living in Covington, St. Joseph's Hospice and to Kim Duvieilh for the love and support they provided during Sara's twilight. Visitation will be held at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home on Saturday April 22, 2023, beginning at 11am followed by a funeral mass at 1pm. Interment will follow in Lake Lawn Park and Mausoleum.
