Rose Manchon Obituary

Rose Marie Helen Manchon, age 73, died on Monday, February 23rd at St. Tammany Parish Hospital surrounded by her loved ones. Born in New Orleans on June 19, 1941, she was the daughter of Denis Davis and Helen Elizabeth Jarboe Manchon. She attended St. Henry and St. James Major Catholic Elementary Schools, graduating from St. Mary's Dominican High School in 1958. Following her completion of study at Mercy Hospital School of Nursing, she married, raised her children and nurtured her family in the New Orleans area. Rose continued her education, receiving her MSN from LSU Medical Center. For many years, she worked with Phillip Rye, MD prior to her career as a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Public/Community Health Nursing. For ten years, she was employed by East Jefferson General Hospital, where she served as the Director of the Elder Advantage Program. In 1995, Rose Manchon moved to Tucson, where she managed parish nursing programs and diabetic centers for St. Mary's Hospital and later for the Carondolet Health Network throughout Southern Arizona. While residing in Tucson, she was active in community organizations and served on several professional boards of directors. Ms. Manchon retired in 2003, and returned to the New Orleans area. Once again she became involved in her community, her church and most recently volunteered her time to the St. Tammany Library Foundation. Rose will be remembered for her generous hospitality and sincere interest in her many friends and associates both in Tucson and in New Orleans. Rose Manchon is survived by the following members of her loving family: daughter and son-in-law, Jeanne-Marie Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Joseph Ganucheau of Mandeville, along with granddaughters Margaret Elise and Charlotte Rose Ganucheau; son and daughter-in-law, John Denis and Amy Wiegand Taylor of Metairie, plus grandchildren Megan Elizabeth Taylor Jaynes (Marc Hugh) and John Denis Taylor, Jr; son and daughter-in-law, Christopher George and Jill Duffy Taylor of Houston, along with grandchildren Emily Ann Taylor, Adam Duffy Taylor (Sara Inzer) and Benjamin Christopher Taylor. Her brother and sister-in-law, John Joseph and Janet Crane Manchon of Mount Dora, FL and her sister-in-law, Ann M. Karas of Allentown, PA also survive her, as does her former spouse, John Arrington Taylor, Jr. of Mandeville. Also surviving are twelve nieces and nephews and their families, former sister-in-law Barbara Taylor Breaux along with many life-long friends and professional colleagues, all of whom will miss her very much. Preceding her in death were her parents and her brother and sister-in-law Denis Davis Manchon, Jr. and Eleanor Pryzborowski Manchon. A Mass of Christian Burial for Rose Manchon will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Mandeville on Saturday, February 28th at 9:30 am with a brief visitation beginning at 9 am. Visitation in New Orleans will take place from 12:30 to 2:30 pm at Jacob Schoen & Son Funeral Home on Canal Street. Burial will follow at St. Louis Cemetery No. 3 on Esplanade Avenue. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be offered to Pio Decimo Center Housing & Family Services Center, 848 S. 7th Avenue, Tucson, AZ 85701.Condolences may be expressed at www.schoenfh.com

I became friends with Rose while doing a travel nurse assignment in Tucson. It was pure joy connecting with a fellow "who dat?!" Rose had many physical challenges for decades, yet, you would never have known it! She was beautiful, charming, fun and adventurous. What a legacy she left her family. I loved Rose from the moment we met God bless you as you feel her loss and carry out her legacy.

Heartfelt sympathies go out to the family. May you find comfort in the promise found in 1Thessalonians 4:14, knowing that there is a future hope for the ones we have lost in death can be reassuring.

May the God of all comfort strengthen the entire family during this time of sorrow. Those who die God keeps in his memory because they are precious in his eyes. (Psalms 116:15) My sincerest sympathy.

No words could ever express my deep love and affection for Rose. She was kind, fun-loving and always taking care of others. It was too soon, Rose, but we know you are in heaven with the rest of the angels. Will miss you so very much. May God bless the beautiful family you created. I know it will be difficult for them to cope without the true love you extended to them. Thanks for the many good memories. Til we meet again. Jackie Rowley

I will never forget the time she took the kids and me swimming and the boys pushed her in the pool. She was so angry... for about 20 minutes, then we all had a good laugh and went to play video games.

She was always very kind to me and had an exceptional amount of insight into the lives of young people - back in a day when adults really didn't have time for such things. She made a difference, and there will always be a special place in my heart for her.

Rose was an exceptional woman and mother. Always loved her positivity and genuine interest in all she knew. She had such an indomitable spirit and nothing kept her down. She always wanted to be in the middle of everything. Her deep love and devotion to her children and grandchildren was unparalleled as evidenced by the love her family showered her with. It was a blessing to know you, RoRo....you're one of the best!

I met Rose while working a travel nurse assignment in Tucson...for one New Orleans girl to meet another, out in the desert...and a woman like Rose...open, full of life and fun, embracing ALL that came her way; it was an instant "connect." Rose, you are one of a kind, and my life was so enriched for having met you and spent time with you. I love you my friend.

I will miss my friend --- her sweet laugh, her sincere interest in "your story". She was very special in every positive way.
