Roy Robertson Obituary

Roy Daniel Robertson, Jr., age 53 years, of Slidell, LA, passed away on Sunday, March 14, 2021. He is survived by his wife, Colleen Robertson, and his daughter, Brianna Robertson. Son of Roy Robertson Sr. and Sharon Bouwell Ledet. Roy was loved by all who knew him. Born and raised in Port Sulpher, Louisiana, he was a kind brother to Dock Robertson, Shay Thigpen, and the late Robin Robertson, spending much of his early childhood fishing and being adventurous. Being around Roy was a blessing, and his energy and enthusiasm for life itself was contagious. He met Colleen, his wife, in Belle Chasse at a high school football game, and he proceeded to switch schools just so he could get her number! Roy went on to marry Colleen in 1988, and together, they went on to go to college at the University of New Orleans. Roy was a man of both integrity and honor, and he spread this steadfastness in both his personal and public life. After 10 years of marriage, Roy and Colleen brought their daughter Brianna into the world, and Roy went on to teach his daughter many things, from football, to chess, to fishing. Roy was the master of all trades, and there was never a sport that he did not excel at. There was never a challenge that he was not up to, whether the challenge be at work or in the kitchen. He was a stellar chef, practicing his expertise from pancakes to gumbo. Roy built everything, from coffee tables, to cat towers, to bikes. His daughter never knew him to shy away from someone in need, or to step away in a moment of crisis. He had faith in God, and he lived by example, and he led others through that example. Roy was committed to family, first and foremost, and his selfless love for his family and friends lives on. With his example, the world became a better place, and that legacy lives on in all those he was able to meet, along with all those he was able to impact directly through his LOPA donation. He was in Asset Management at the University of New Orleans. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Services at Honaker Funeral Home, 1751 Gause Blvd. West (in Forest Lawn Cemetery), Slidell, LA on Saturday, March 20, 2021, at 1:00 pm. Visitation on Saturday from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to The Ronald McDonald House, preferred. Please visit www.honakerforestlawn.com to sign guestbook. Colleen and Bri,
I am so sorry for your loss. It is so hard to imagine meeting Roy almost 30 years ago. Colleen and Jeneen were in Math Club and while they were in their meeting Roy and I waited out in the hallway and a friendship was born. It was not hard befriending Roy as he was a man of true character and you never had to worry about what he was thinking about something because he let you know. His sense of humor and never-ending Witt will be the thing I will miss the most. I remember Roy being so heartbroken when his sister passed away so I know he was able to give her a big hug. I truly loved Roy like a brother. Again, Colleen, I am so sorry for your loss. I cannot fathom your pain. I can only say to always remember the good times and to lean on friends and family as they are grieving with you..

When someone fills such a big space in this world. And brightens it with charisma, love, humour, and a contagious joie de vivre. Words are too small to fill the space he leaves behind. But, his legacy continues through each of you. With deepest condolences, I pray for you and Brianna.

Roy was truly one of the BEST people we have ever known! Roy was never without a smile or a mischievous grin which was often accompanied by a funny story or joke he would share with you to make you laugh or make your day better. If you needed help with a project or idea, Roy was there to assist and to give advice. He took joy in helping others and expected nothing in return other than respect and friendship. We admired his athleticism, we valued his opinions and we loved that he accepted people just the way they were. These are just a few of the traits Roy displayed on a daily basis and this is why we loved, and still love, Roy. He was a true example not only for his cherished daughter Bri, but also for everyone. We will miss looking across the street and seeing him working in the yard or in the garage and that will be very difficult, however, his life and spirit touched our lives and so many more and for that we are very grateful! We pray for Colleen and Bri and the entire family. Roy will be missed but his spirit lives in our hearts always!

Roy,
It was a pleasure working with you over our many years at UNO. You were the best at what you did and always
found ways for departments to save money by informing them of what you had in that extremely organized property control warehouse.
You became a very good ambassdor for RIS and I enjoyed our many conversations about RIS or any other topic that came up. The students and staff you have met along the way will be better people if they follow in your ways.
God now has his plan for you in his home, God Bless.

How shocked and saddened to hear of Roy's untimely death. People like him should live forever to show us how we should act and love. He always bent over backward to help the UNO community with with finding furnishings when our budgets were so tight. He never turned down a challenge; all the while making it seem as if it were the least he could do. Smiling, laughing, joking, loving his family and God - you could always count on him. He was truly one of the good ones! My sincerest sympathy goes out to his wife Colleen and his daughter Brianna as well as to all who had a chance to meet him. He is truly unforgettable.

One of the highlights of my time at UNO was the time spent with Roy. He was truly a fantastic guy and a real inspiration. He was so proud of his family that it was a joy to hear him brag about them. I actually looked forward to annual inventory because Roy even made misery fun. We could argue about politics and still walk away laughing. I'm so sorry for his loss, but equally thankful to have known him.

I am praying for his family. I worked with Roy for over 20yrs here at UNO and I am going to miss him. He was such a kind, sweet man, who would help anyone at anytime. Roy always helped out when he was needed and did it with a smile. We will miss that smile. Roy who loved to joke around and when he caught me speeding he would send me an email tell me I need to pay the fine which was brownies or continue to work with a smile on my face, I paid up so he and Chris got the brownies. He loved his family, his faith and he loved UNO. UNO Proud Roy that was you, and proud I was to have gotten to know you.

Roy was a wonderful colleague: always helpful, always nice, always funny, and always willing to go the extra step. He was also curious about people from other places and countries, how things work there and are handled there, and I appreciated that. UNO lost a exceptional colleague and human being. My heart goes out to all his family and his many friends.

I was saddened to learn of Roy’s passing. During my decades at UNO, I had the opportunity to get to know Roy and he was always ready and able to assist in any way he could. Although I retired from UNO in 2008, whenever I was back on campus and ran into Roy, he’d greet me warmly and we’d talked about his wife Colleen, a former student of mine, and his daughter, Brianna. My condolences to Colleen, Bri, and his entire family.

Colleen and Brianna,

Roy was always proud and excited to talk about Bri's lastest adventures!
He was a friend and his kindness was always there, you seemed to have known him a long time. Our family spent time together in school ceremonies and our daughters were friends and swam on the same team. Roy was fun to talk to at all of the meets our daughters went to, and both swam very well! He was an example to all of us on how to hold your family near and dear to you. We will miss him and will see him again one day and continue our talks about life and family! Rest easy Roy, and know God will help your family through till you meet again

I am greatly saddened to learn of Roy's passing. I worked alongside Roy at UNO for 12 years, on many occasions, trying to ascertain the whereabouts of moveable university assets of my department. There was never a more friendly or hardworking guy than Roy. We discussed everything from woodworking, to Call of Duty, to Disney trips. He was especially proud of his family and his daughter and would share her many accomplishments with us at his office. He was quite an accomplished woodworker and would always go out of his way to help anyone who needed it. He will be greatly missed. Rest in Peace.
