Roy Schwarz Obituary

SCHWARZ Roy Schwarz Jr., 74, of Hyde Park, Vermont died peacefully on Friday, Sept. 7, 2012, at his home after battling pancreatic cancer for almost two years. He fought hard. He was born Feb. 15, 1938, in New Orleans, La., son of Roy Maas Schwarz Sr. and Clara Marx Schwarz. Roy attended Country Day School and went on to graduate from Yale University. He married Patricia Taylor on April 14, 1962, and lovingly did what he was told for 50-plus years. In 1987 Roy and Pat moved to Hyde Park, Vermont, a decision that left their New Orleans friends sure they had lost their minds. But Roy never looked back and for 25 more years enjoyed riding his horses, travel, the New York Yankees, music, great food and wine, lots of dark chocolate, and most certainly his four grandchildren. Those around him were blessed with his incredible sense of humor, honesty and love of family and friends that permeated every aspect of his life. Roy was active in the community, both in New Orleans and Vermont serving on numerous boards. After a career in real estate, Roy opened Fine Wine Cellars in Stowe, Vermont and transformed one of his greatest passions into a flourishing business. Survivors include his wife, Patricia Schwarz; children Wendy Schwarz of Rowayton, Conn., Andrew Schwarz of New Orleans and Edward Schwarz of Minneapolis; and grandchildren Gabrielle, William, Marguerite and Beatrice. In lieu of flowers, please consider a charitable donation in Roy's memory to Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center-Pancreatic Cancer Program, P.O. Box 27106, New York, NY 10087-7106 or go to mskcc.org.

Dearest Pat-Susan and I were so saddened to learn of Roy's death. As I observed to you on the phone, you are two peas in a pod. Be gentle with yourself these next months as you mourn the absence of your best friend, your lovely husband. Cherish the memories and find Roy still there with you. Bless you, Linda+

Dear Pat,
So sorry to hear about Roy. I remember him well from when we were kids and used to go to the company picnics and Mardi Gras at the office back when his dad worked with my Grandfather and Uncle Buzzy at Fitzgerald Advertising.
Roy was a class act even back then. I will keep him in my prayers.

I didn't know Roy well but I worked with his Father at Fitzgerald Advertising Agency in New Orleans for 12 years. I met Roy a few times then and he was like his father,a true gentleman with class and integrity. My best wishes and prayers to the family.
