Sadie Harrell Obituary

Sadie Pearl Harrell, our Queen and Matriarch, entered eternal life surrounded by her family on September 28, 2023 at the age of 83. A native of Gloster, Mississippi and a resident of New Orleans for 66 years, Sadie was married to the late Frank Harrell Sr. and a nurturing mother to her children which she affectionately referred to as "The Great 8." Born to the late James Butler Sr. and the late Carrie Freeman Gooden, Sadie had the honor of being reared and loved by the late Jimmy Gooden Sr. She was baptized at the tender age of 7 at the Antioch Baptist Church and accepted Christ at the age of 24. In November 1965, New Bethel COGIC was established. Sadie was the epitome of a leading lady, she was not only a pillar in the ministry, but in the community as well. Her infectious smile lit up any room she entered. She was a master chef and fed everyone; she served tirelessly along with her husband until his demise. She had a love and passion for caring for children and mothered many. In 1998, Sadie became a faithful, dedicated member of Beacon Light Ministry where she served as a Mother of the Church. Our Queen and Mother leaves to cherish her memories, her beloved children: Gwendolyn Harris (Larselle), Marilyn Darby (Johnie), Terri Jackson (Levi), Josephine Harrell, Mary Denise Harrell (Larry), Yolanda Davis (Steven), Frank Harrell Jr. (Ronya), Brandy Wells (the late Lawrence), 23 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren, two sisters, one brother, one brother-in-love, sisters-in-love, a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and her precious dog Chloe' whom she loved immensely. Preceded in death by her loving husband, Pastor Frank Harrell Sr., granddaughter, Darien Blue, grandson, Vyshaun Willis, and son-in-love Lawrence Wells. Relatives and friends are invited to the celebration of her life and legacy at Beacon Light International Baptist Cathedral, Bishop Darryl S. Brister, Officiating, 1937 Mirabeau Ave., New Orleans, LA 70122 on Saturday, October 7, 2023 at 11:00 am. Visitation begins at 9:00 am until 10:50 am. Interment: Southeast LA Veterans Cemetery, 34888 Grantham College Dr., Slidell, LA 70460. Arrangements entrusted to Heritage Funeral Directors, 4101 St. Claude Ave., New Orleans, LA, 70117.

Wow Mother Harrell, such a precious mother. I will miss seeing you whenever I come to visit Beacon Light and to see that big smile when you saw me.

I´m grateful to have known and had a relationship with you, remembering all of the many words of encouragement, words of correction in love and just that motherly spirit you had.

The Lord has spoken and He´s said well done thy good and faithful servant.
