Salvadore Segreto Obituary

My father, Salvadore Joseph Segreto, son of Joseph Segreto and Ola Hutto Segreto, and eldest brother of William and Francis Segreto. was born August 24, 1940 and passed on October 5, 2015, after an arduous battle with a complicated illness. My father was born in New Orleans, grew up in the French Quarter, and attended Holy Cross High School. He is best known for his many restaurant ventures, most notably, Broussard's and ELEVEN79. My father was an elegant man who could cut an imposing figure and could be intimidating when he needed to be. Equally, he had an enormous heart and he was the king of granting people second, third, fourth chances and beyond. I have been so incredibly blessed in my life to have amazingly wonderful parents and an unconventional childhood by some standards-but it was perfect to me, they, were perfect to me. I used to laugh--anything that was ladylike and feminine I owed to my mother and anything wise or stoic I owed to my father. He taught me to laugh, be strong, and he always told me, "Alexis, be as gracious as you can and if it's a mistake on your part, make it right, but don't take foolishness from people, and never allow others to push you around because they think they can." And I've always taken that to heart because he was absolutely right. If you're reading this obituary and knew my father, please remember his striking presence and his gracious heart, and know that he is now in peace looking upon us. Invitations to a private service have been extended to friends and family.

Our deepest condolences, Alexis, on the loss of your father! I can still here him calling out my name with that long draw on the vowels as I walked into the restaurant, "...Kaaaathaaay!What U Doin'?" I know he was a good friend, great father and, always, the consumate host! He will be missed... Love, Col. Craig and Kathy Mays

Sorry for your loss Alexis. Mr. Joe was always the class act. I told my inside story about him to many people "look at the menu, order something else". I'm sure Sonny and all his friends will miss him terribly.
