Samuel Coco Obituary

Samuel Coco, Jr. departed from this life unexpectedly on August 19, 2021, at the age of 69. A native of Chalmette, LA and a resident of Slidell, LA, he is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Gayle Gaglio Coco; son, Bradley Paul Coco (Jennifer), of Madisonville, LA. and daughter, Stacy Leigh Coco of New Orleans, LA. Also survived by his mother, Katie Marcotte Coco of Moreauville, LA.; sister, Juanita Coco of Meraux, LA.; brother, Phillip Coco of Moreauville, LA.; brother-in-law of Lisa Gaglio and one grandson, Ryan Patrick Coco. Predeceased by his father, Samuel Coco, Sr. He leaves behind his beloved dog, Koda and a host of relatives and countless friends. Upon graduation from Chalmette High School, Sam entered Hotel Dieu School of Radiologic Technology, where he met his wife, Gayle. He worked in the field for a number of years before joining New York Life as an insurance agent. After several years, he accepted a position at Crown Buick GMC in Metairie, LA where he worked for over 30 years making many friendships and positive impacts along the way until his retirement. Upon his retirement, he spent countless hours volunteering at Slidell Memorial Hospital where numerous people truly adored him. A loving husband, father and brother, Sam never met a stranger and was a friend to all. He could only be described as a selfless man in every facet of his life, always willing to help others. Sam lived life to the fullest and never let his Parkinson's slow him down. A long-time lover of fishing and golf, Sam not only looked at these as hobbies but as his medicine. He often wrote articles for a local fishing website, Northshore Fishing Report. Sam loved every second of his life and never let anything stand in his way. His neighbors always looked after him and kept his best interest at heart. Sam was loved by many and will be terribly missed. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Parkinson's Foundation at www.parkinson.org. The family will receive friends Saturday, August 28, 2021 at Jacob Schoen & Son Funeral Home from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. A memorial Mass will be celebrated in the J. Garic Schoen Chapel at 11 a.m. with interment to follow in St. Louis #3 Cemetery. Condolences may be left at www.schoenfh.com. In order to comply with current COVID-19 mandates from the City of New Orleans, mask wearing protocols will be observed along with proof of vaccination or a negative PCR COVID-19 test taken within the last 72 hours. On behalf of the family, Jacob Schoen & Son thanks you in advance for your cooperation.

Goodbye my friend, I will cherish the fishing and eating trips over the last year or so and the rebirth of our Chalmette Vista childhood friendship. Your quiet determination, strength and bravery is and shall always be a guiding motivation to me.
