Sara Kimble Obituary

Sara Greer Kimble died Friday, Sept. 14, 2007, at a hospital in Dallas following surgical complications.
Graveside service: 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, in De Leon Cemetery with Dr. Fane Downs officiating. Visitation: 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at Nowlin Funeral Home in De Leon.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the National Audubon Society or a charity of choice.
In a completely rational society, the greatest among us will be teachers and the rest of us something less.
Sarah Greer Kimble was born June 29, 1940, in Lockney to Doyle William Greer and Sarah Frances Stevens Greer. Her grandparents were Dr. N.E. Greer, Ioma Dulin Patterson Greeer, Dixie Gore Stevens and Sarah Dorsey May. Sara married John E. Kimble on July 1, 1971, in Baird. They have one daughter, Lou Frances. Lou and her husband, PJ, have two beautiful children.
She attended high school in Lubbock and Gorman, where she made many lifelong friends. She received her bachelor of arts degree in elementary education from McMurry College, where she was very active in the band. She then received her master of arts degree in elementary supervision from the University of North Texas. She and John enjoyed yearly travels with her friends who were also alumni of the McMurry band.
Sara taught elementary school for several years in the Abilene Independent School District. After moving to Fort Worth in 1979, she taught social studies at William James Magnet School and retired from the FWISD. She and John moved to Pecan Plantation near Granbury after he retired in 2000.
She was proud to be a teacher and always strived to do her best. She was rewarded quite often when her ex-students moved on, making significant contributions to society and receiving many awards.
Sara was active in several important groups. She enjoyed her friendships and projects with the American Association of University Women. She also loved attending Audubon Society meetings and taking bird walks. Birding was a very important activity for her, and she tried to identify birds every day. She was also active in several small book clubs.
After retirement, Sara's favorite activity was to travel. She and John would combine genealogy research and family trips. She dearly loved researching her family roots. Sara was a member of the National Genealogical Society as well as numerous smaller genealogical societies. She was very proud of the fact that her research paid off when she recently was awarded membership in the Daughters of the American Revolution and joined the Granbury chapter.
Survivors: Her husband of 36 years, John; their daughter, Lou; son-in-law, PJ; two grandchildren; and numerous cousins.

Sara was one of my very best friends. She inspired me in my first year of teaching in 1963.

I taught school with Sara at North Hi Mount. She was an exceptional teacher and a wonderful friend. We shared many happy times together. May God bless Lou and John in this great loss. Love, Peggy
