Shirley Mae Thomas

Shirley Mae Thomas, a native New Orleanian, entered into eternal rest, while surrounded by her family, on Wednesday, July 20, 2022. She was 80 years old. Shirley was born on July 28, 1941 in New Orleans. She was the daughter of Thomas Washington Sr. and Ella Fortier. She attended Walter L. Cohen Sr. High School. She worked as an Accountant for Shell Oil Refinery Company in New Orleans before relocating to Houston, TX. She was the former spouse of Melvin Thomas. Shirley leaves to cherish her memories, her children Melanie, Angela and Gregory (Delta) Thomas, grandchildren, Armani Flood, Brittany Thomas, Kala Thomas, Anna' Renee Byrd, Gregory and Craig Harvey, and 4 great-grandchildren; her siblings, favorite sister Anita Washington, Ann Cooper, brothers Robert (Rachel) Washington Sr., and Brian (Wendy) Washington. She is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, former spouse Melvin Thomas, sisters Gloria Ford and Eva Mae, brothers Arthur Lee Washington, Thomas Washington Jr. Willie Ford, and Willie Washington. Family and friends are invited to attend her Celebration of Life Service on Monday, August 1, 2022 for 1:30 p.m. at The Boyd Family Funeral Home, 5001 Chef Menteur Hwy., New Orleans, LA 70126.
