Shirley Thren Obituary

Shirley J. Thren

Shirley J. Thren (nee Tomlin) age 72 years, died June 30 at her home in Pitman, N.J., after a courageous battle with melanoma. Born in Woodbury, N.J., she was a 1951 graduate of Glassboro High School and has been a resident of Pitman for over 50 years. She was employed by Glassboro State College as a dietitian for special needs children. Along with her family, she owned the Homestead Restaurant in Woodbury, NJ during the early 1980s.

She was a member of the Glassboro High School 1951 Reunion Committee, Gloucester County Widow and Widowers Association, Highland Chemical Engine Co. Auxiliary, and always enjoyed their Annual Labor Day Carnival.

She was an avid traveler and enjoyed spending her summers at the Jersey Shore and time in Atlantic City at the casinos. She especially loved being with her grandchildren.

Predeceased by her husband of 51 years, Robert D. Thren Sr. Survived by her sons, Robert Jr. (Trudy) of Pitman, Jay E. (Nicole) of El Cajon, Calif., daughter Bonnie Lee (Steve) Fearon of Pitman, grandchildren Robert III, Keith, Sidney A., and Tyler N. Thren, Jonathan, Brooke A., and Brittany L. Fearon, great grandchildren Julianna and Jaden. Also survived by her good friend Dolores Cheeseman and her beloved dog Cocoa.

Friends are invited to call Thursday July 6 from 7 to 9 p.m., and Friday after 10AM in the KELLEY FUNERAL HOME, 125 Pitman Ave., Pitman, N.J.

Funeral service at 11AM.

Interment Hillcrest Mem. Park, Hurffville, N.J. Those desiring may make a contribution to the Highland Chem. Eng. Co., P.O. Box 20, Pitman, NJ 08071, or Heartland Hospice, 800 Jessup Rd., Suite 807, Thorofare, NJ 08086.
