Sylvia Moten

1951 - 2022

Sylvia Ann Moten passed into the loving arms of her heavenly father on September 6, 2022. Sylvia Ann Moten was born January 10, 1951 in New Orleans, Louisiana to the union of Earl and Lydia Moten. Sylvia attended Holy Ghost Catholic School and Booker T. Washington Senior High School. Sylvia enjoyed sports and played baseball for the Hideaway Bar. She also devoted her time as a math and reading tutor at Magnolia Housing and was a dedicated volunteer parent at Allen Elementary School. Her passion was teaching and loving kids. Sylvia leaves behind three sisters, Gale Walker, Patricia Lewis, and Tracey Thornton (Roy LeBeau). Sylvia is survived by her three children, Claudette Brassfield, Trina (David) Clark, Earlette Moten, and the late Trionka Moten. Grandchildren: Vincent, Vionjane Smith, Kentrell Gould, Wilton Ellis, Treasur`, and David Jackson, III, Zion, Hezekiah, Hosanna, and Solomon Clark, Curtis Bonney Jr., and Liberty Moten. Nieces: Micquel Thornton, and Sean Lewis. Great nephew MaKyre Robertson, and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, September 23, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Katherine Drexel Catholic Church, 2015 Louisiana Avenue, NOLA (formerly Holy Ghost). Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. Interment at St. Vincent Cemetery, 1925 Soniat Street, New Orleans, Louisiana. Repast will follow the burial at Harmony Oaks Community Center, 2514 Washington Ave., New Orleans, La. Due to COVID-19, everyone attending is required to wear masks and adhere to social distancing.
