Sylvia Stern Obituary

SYLVIA WRIGHT STERN, cherished Daughter, Sister, Wife, Mother, Aunt and Friend, died on Monday, November 9 at the age of 93. She was a graduate of Lindenwood College in St. Charles, Missouri and for over 50 years, a resident of New Orleans, where she actively volunteered in the Hemodialysis Unit of Touro Infirmary (named in honor of her late father) and Children's Hospital, among other organizations, which she and her late husband supported in varied ways. She will be remembered for her grace, humility, other-directedness, limitless compassion and generosity. Her deep love of family and friends was legendary and defining and she considered both to be the greatest privilege of her life. A native of Eunice, Louisiana, she was the daughter of the late Sadie and Louis Wright; sister of the late Morris Wright, Sophie Wright Kerstein, Sidney Wright and Lillian Wright Levin; and aunt of the late Joan Kerstein. She was predeceased by her adoring husband of 54 years, Warren L. Stern. She is survived by her sons Robert W. Stern and Charles W. Stern as well as her sister Beth Bloch Rosenthal, all of New Orleans. Overton (Rick); Deborah Robinson (Courtney); Carole Stern (Greg); Ted Bloch (Suzie); Ed Brin; David Kerstein (Geneva); Alan Levin (Marilyn); Sidney Levin; Louis Levin (Donna); Maury Stern (Emily); and Walter Stern (Nelsie). Great-Nieces and Nephews: Lauren Levin (Tony) Laura Guirao; Michelle Sisco (Ken); Carolyn Kerstein; Elizabeth Bolster (Eric), Risa Lichtman; Grace Stern; Jeff Garneau; Will Garneau; Scott Kern (Tricia); Adam Levin; Josh Levin; Michael Levin; David Lichtman; Josh Lichtman (Davida); Stephen Overton; Andrew Robinson; Court Robinson (Kristen); Mark Robinson; Arthur Stern; and Ben Stern. Great-Great Nieces and Nephews: Emzi Finger; Katie Kern; Alejandra Levin-Valadez; Anna Robinson; Drew Bolster; Fisher Bolster; Laizer Finger; Graham Robinson; Jack Robinson; Drew Sisco; and Jack Sisco. Grand Godchildren: Elise Fant and Bowen Ellis. Devoted primary caregiver and friend, Jenny Delgado A Memorial Service will be held at Longue Vue House and Gardens, 7 Bamboo Road, New Orleans, Louisiana 70124 at 3:30 pm on Thursday, November 12. Private Interment in Metairie Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the New Orleans Center for the Creative Arts Institute, 2800 Chartres, New Orleans, Louisiana, 70117.
