Thomas E. "Tommy" Gilbert, age 78, died on Tuesday, March 3, 2020 at 5:35 AM in Hopedale, LA (his earthly paradise). Beloved husband of Suzanne "Suzy" Bourgeois Gilbert. Father of Thomas E. Gilbert, Jr., Kevin T. Gilbert, and Dr. Tammy Gilbert. Son of the late Alvira Clavier Gilbert and Price Thomas Gilbert. Brother of Rose Gilbert Bienvenu "Allen Gator" and the late Alice Gilbert Tresch. Grandfather of Blaine Thomas Gilbert and Cassidy Elaine Gilbert. Born in New Orleans, Tommy was a longtime resident of Arabi, LA and currently a resident of Mandeville, LA since Katrina. Tommy was a loving husband to Suzy for over 53 years and a devoted father and grandfather. Prior to Hurricane Katrina, he was owner/president of Gilbert's Food Products, a family business founded by his parents in 1939. Tommy loved fishing in Hopedale for 68 years and his greatest joy was sharing his 'catch'. A founding parishioner of Most Holy Trinity, he faithfully served as an usher at the Sunday 11AM mass. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral visitation and Mass at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 501 Holy Trinity Drive, Covington, LA. 70433 on Monday, March 9, 2020, visitation from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM followed by Mass at 1:00 PM. The Inurnment will take place privately at St. Bernard Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, Masses preferred, or donations to the Scleroderma Research Foundation online at www.srfcure.org/donate in memory of Thomas E. Susy, I just found our about Tommy's passing yesterday. I am so sorry for your loss. Tommy was a wonderful guy and a great fisherman. He is resting in peace somewhere on the waters of Hopedale. My prayers will be with you and your family.

I dealt with Tommy through my days working at Dickey Potato Chips, then meeting him when Ron and I got married as Rob's uncle. He was such a sweet person. Sorry to hear of Tommy's passing. Grew up with Mr. Price Gilbert's candy in our backyard and Tommy's loving family. A Port St. neighbor & Schoolmate for many years. Nicholls 59' graduate. Sorry to have learned of your husband's passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. We were Perrin Dr. neighbors and also enjoyed doing business with Gilbert's Foods by way of Carolyn Park School and Baby Luv Boutique. What a wonderful community taken away by Katrina, but she couldn't take away our memories. I will miss Tommy. He was a thoughtful, humble and friendly man. He always stopped the car to say hello when I was walking my dog Cameaux. What's going on, Jim? See you at mass tomorrow. The world needs more Tommys. I believe that while we feel his absence here, heaven will be a happier place upon his arrival. Thank you family for sharing Tommy.

Tommy is one of the most amazing person I have met in my business and personal life.
I always remember visiting Gilbert's when I was with American Chicle and walking the floor with him and seeing you in the office. I also remember when my wife Susan and I were in NOLA and had dinner with you, Rusty and the Silvas.

I am so blessed to know him and you Suzy Gilbert, and he will always be smiling at us!
