Thomas Whittaker Obituary

Thomas Albert Whittaker, Jr., of Warren, passed away October 31, 2017, at 90 years of age.

Beloved husband of fifty years to the late Barbara; dear father of Tom Whittaker III, Kim Carl, Eric (Dena) Whittaker, Pat Whittaker, and Dan Whittaker; proud grandfather of Nick, Emily, and Olivia.

Tom graduated from Cooley High School in Detroit, Class of 1945. He proudly served his country in the Naval Reserve during World War II, aboard the U.S.S. Andromeda. Following the war, he attended and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Detroit, Class of 1951.

Tom wore many hats, working at the Dodge Truck Plant, Detroit Edison, Western Electric, Burroughs, and the US Army Tank-Automotive Command. After retiring in 1993, Tom and Barbara were "snow birds" in Central Florida during the winters until 2012.

Tom offered his services to many causes that he was passionate about including being a member of the Knights of Columbus, Right to Life, and a member of St. Louise de Marillac Catholic Church, also acting as an usher, church festival committee, and president of the Mom and Dad's club.

In his spare time, he was a devoted sports fan, card player, bowler, golfer, travel, and especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

The family will greet friends from 3:00pm until 8:00pm on Friday, November 3 at Edward Swanson and Son Funeral Home 30351 Dequindre, Madison Heights. Rosary service at 7:00pm. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 9:30am, Saturday, November 4 at St. Louise de Marillac Catholic Church, 2500 E. 12 Mile Rd., Warren. In State from 9:00am until time of mass. Tom was one of the first Loyal Univ of Detroit Mercy Titan fans I met. We sat in the same row at Historic Calihan Hall for Titan Basketball Games for decades.

Tom was a Real Titan and had a very successful Engineering Career. Job Well Done.

May Tom Whittaker be Resting-in-Peace.
