Warren Calvin Obituary

Warren James John Calvin Sr. departed this life on January 17, 2022 at the age of 84. He was born in Welch, Louisiana on June 1, 1937. The fifth child of 11 children, Warren was born to the union of the late Reverend Richard Woodland Calvin Sr. and the late Hazel O'Neal Calvin. Warren was a Preacher's Kid (PK) "born to the Faith", and accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior in the Methodist Church at an early age. He graduated from Booker T. Washington Senior High School, New Orleans, LA. Warren served in the United States Air Force as an Airplane Mechanic for four years after high school. He later worked at Louis Armstrong Airport as a Grounds Maintenance Supervisor where he retired. Warren "Uncle Dixie" leaves to cherish his memory his four children, Mary Etta Calvin Ewell- Royal (Marks Royal), Arlon Craig Calvin (Ruth Calvin), Shane Lawrence Calvin (Lanisha Calvin), and Corey Micheal Calvin (Tamika Calvin); siblings Richard W. Calvin (Evelyn Calvin), Florence C. Jeff, and Carl O'Neal Calvin (Charlene); sister-in-law Janice Mitchell Stemley, brothers-in-law James J. Mitchell Jr. and Edward Kennedy; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, other relatives and friends. Preceded in death by his wife, Jeanette Louise Mitchell Calvin of 42 years, two sons, Warren Calvin Jr. and Phillip Clifford Calvin; 9 siblings, Delores C. Lynch, Johnetta C. Bushell, Veronica C. Thomas, Carolyn C. Hamilton, Arlen "Arlene" C. Kennedy, and Ruth C. Gooch; 1 brother, Reverend George W.C. Calvin; half-sister Alice C. Dillard. Warren will be missed by all who knew and loved him! Family and friends are invited to attend the Celebration of Life Service on Friday, January 28, 2022 for 1:30 p.m. at The Boyd Family Funeral Home, 5001 Chef Menteur Hwy., New Orleans, LA.
