A Navy Aviation Ordnanceman Second Class, Veteran of World War II and combined 24 year veteran of the Navy and Naval Reserves, William "BABE" Hupkowicz passed away at Absolut Care of Aurora Park, in East Aurora, New York, at the age of 95. While in the service, he received the Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Medal and Victory Medal.
Before entering the Navy, Mr. Hupkowicz worked at Curtiss Wright Aircraft, as a riveter and squeeze gun operator. After the service. he worked as a Truck Driver, for a freight delivery service, Eagle Delivery, in Buffalo, New York.
Upon his retirement he opened "Showcase East" a corner bar, located at 111 Metcalfe Street, on the East Side of Buffalo from 1978 till 1988, when his son William J. took over the business.
Babe was an avid Golfer and Bowler for all of his life being an active member of the Cazenovia Golf Association and a Life Member of the former SS. Peter & Paul Athletic Club, serving on the Bingo Committee for several years and also active in the Club's Golf and Bowling League.
He was predeceased on February 25, 2008, by his beloved wife of the late Lottie (nee Adamski) Hupkowicz.
Babe was the devoted father of William J.(Linda Tuzzo) Hupkowicz, Dennis (Tina) Hupkowicz, Kenneth (Barbara) Hupkowicz, Mark “Corky” (Kelly) Hupkowicz and Doreen O’Neill and Father -in-law of Bonnie Jeanne and Kevin.
A loving grandfather of Keith, Amy (Nick) Orefice, Steven, Nicole, Mark, Jr., Jackie and the late Chastity and cherished great-grandfather of Brooklyn, Kamora, Willow, Laci and Piper.
Family will be present on Thursday from 4 to 8 PM at the Pietszak Funeral Home, 2400 William Street (near Harlem) where a funeral service with Military Honors will be held on Friday morning at 10 AM.
Interment will follow at St. Matthew's Cemetery, in West Seneca, New York.
