William Gerard Fanning

1944 - 2021

William Gerard Fanning, a native of New Orleans, passed away on July 11, 2021 at the age of 76. Sonny was born on August 26, 1944 in the Irish Channel. Son of the late Thomas Fanning, Sr. and Mary Delao Fanning. Brother of Thomas Fanning, Jr. (Elaine). Uncle of Thomas Fanning, III, Tammy Dupont (the late Barry), Randy Fanning (Allison), Tricia Mulvihill (Raymond), Danielle Barrosse, Corey Dupont (Kelsey), Kayla Fanning, Shane Fanning, Gage Potter, Baylee Barrosse, Brantley Barrosse and twins, Kylie and Kinsley Dupont. Sonny attended St. Alphonsus Elementary School and graduated from Redemptorist High School, Class of 1962. Sonny served his country in the U.S. Navy as an Aviation Structural Mechanic. He later retired from Avondale Shipyard as a Purchasing Agent after 40 years of service. Sonny was a resident of Terrytown, LA and was a devout parishioner of Christ the King Catholic Church. He enjoyed golf, fishing, bowling and never missed a chance to cheer on his Saints and L.S.U. sports. He will be sadly missed. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Mrs. Andrea and nurse Morva-Lee from Heart of Hospice and his niece, Danielle Barrousse, R.N. for their care and compassion during this difficult time. Visitation will be held at Mothe Funeral Home, 2100 Westbank Expressway, Harvey, LA on Wednesday, July 14, 2021 from 9am to 11am. A Funeral Mass will follow in the funeral home chapel.
