William R. Garnett

GARNETT William R. Garnett, "Lil Bill" passed peacefully from this life the morning of August 12th after his battle with pancreatic cancer at Rapides Parish Regional Medical Center. He was surrounded and supported by his loving family and caregivers during the last days of his life. William R. Garnett was born on August 24, 1940 in New Orleans, Louisiana. He was the oldest of 14 children born to the late William and Bertha (Faciane) Garnett. He graduated from St. Augustine High School in 1958. After graduation he enlisted in the military where served his country as a proud member of the United States Army for 24 years. He retired from the Army as Sergeant First Class. Lil Bill loved cooking and sports, with baseball being his favorite. He was residing in Alexandria for the past six years. He was the husband of the late Sonja Justin Garnett, father of Sean (Shalaire) and Jacques Garnett. Grandfather of one grandson, Sean Michael Garnett II. Lil Bill was the brother of Jeannette Pichon (late Roland), Paulet Ferrand (late Jules), Shelia LaCabe (Lionel), Aloysius (Rosanna), Darrell (Yvonne), Deborah McCagney (Ray), June Larche (Kenneth), Darnell Ellis (Claudie). He was preceded in death by his mother Bertha and father William, his baby sisters Rosemary and Selena, brothers Richard, Cedric (Joyce), and Gary.
