Wilmer Dixon Obituary

Brother Wilmer Dixon, a retired Pot Operator, Businessman, Gospel Singer and Carpenter departed this life in good spirit on February 20, 2018, at the age of 92. Brother Dixon is the third of 11 children born to the marital union of Sebie Dixon, Sr. and Louisa Mallard Dixon in Georgetown, Mississippi, on August 26, 1925. He is survived by two sons; Lionel Dixon, Sr. and Kenny Ray Dixon (Suewann), two daughters; Linda Sue Dixon Johnson and Tracy Brown, a granddaughter reared as his own Andrelnel Lewis (Warren), and his remaining siblings of Jackson, Mississippi; Roy Dixon (Maxine), Louise Gordon, Mable Rodgers and Celeste Catchings. Brother Dixon also leaves to mourn his departure 24 grandchildren, a host of great grandchildren, other relatives and friends. Brother Dixon was preceded in death by his loving wife of 68 years, Addie Mae Haley Dixon, one daughter; Nancy Thompson, three sons; Wilmer Dixon, Sr., Larry Dixon and Jamie Lee Dixon, his parents; Sebie Dixon Sr. and Louisa Mallard Dixon, seven siblings; Carlee Dixon, Colie Dixon Sr., Earl Dixon Sr., Sebie Dixon Jr., Ruby Dixon Brent and Lenora Dixon, one daughter-in-law; Marilyn Dixon and two grandsons; Travis Thompson and Frederick Savone. Following his retirement from Kaiser Aluminum in 1983, Brother Dixon remained very active as he provided low-income housing for many citizens of his community, assisted his church with construction projects using his unique carpentry skills, participated in both male and general choruses, traveled and performed with his gospel group The Golden Wings and with all of his commitments, he made valuable time for his wife and kids. Brother Dixon would cook and entertain family and friends almost every weekend and sometimes, during the week depending on the occasion. He even planted and harvested his own food. Up until the time God called him home, Brother Dixon was preparing Sunday dinner for family and friends. He was very comfortable in the kitchen and we all enjoyed his good cooking! Brother Dixon represented what God called him to be-an unconditional servant of the Lord and a peace maker. He will be sadly missed by not only his family members, but by many others who met and knew him. Family and friends are invited to attend the Home Going Celebration Service on Saturday, March 03, 2018, at the Beulah Land Baptist Church, 2436 St. Maurice Street, New Orleans, LA 70117 for 9:00 a.m. Visitation will begin at 8:00 a.m. Pastor Michael Zacharie Officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Cemetery, 10400 Old Gentilly Road, New Orleans, LA. Online Guestbook: www.anewtraditionbegins.com (504) 282-0600.

May God grant the family of Bro. Dixon peace and comfort during this time.

He was a wonderful man and will truly be missed.

I grew up in Beulah Land B.C. and recall his smile and his beautiful singing in the choir.

May Bro. Dixon rest with our Heavenly Father as he was a blessed man.

My sincerest condolences to you all.
My thoughts and prayers are with you.
