Yvonne Gamble Obituary

GAMBLE Yvonne "Peedee" Gamble died at home on November 11, 2013 one month before her 97th birthday on December 11th. Beloved wife of the late Cameron B. Gamble and loving mother of two sons, Cameron C. Gamble (Nancy Witherspoon) and Colo Milling (nee Robert M. Gamble, deceased) and one daughter, Brian C. Gamble (Henry Harbin). Devoted and beloved grandmother of Allison Gamble (David Johnson), Nancy B. Gamble (Mike Reed), Barkley Gamble, Sere Gamble, Vanessa Harbin and Andrew Harbin, and great-grandmother of Cameron and Gamble Reed. Peedee raised the family while husband, Cameron, was in the Pacific with the Marines during World War II. After the war, Peedee and Cameron started their business, Kitchens by Cameron, where they worked side by side until they retired in the 1980's. They were among the original organizers of the Caledonian Society of New Orleans and, as part of a Scottish Country Dance ensemble, they performed Scottish dancing on stage in both the French Quarter Festival and the Jazz Fest. They enjoyed each other, travel and family. Peedee had a great sense of humor. She was quick to laugh with you in fun times and just as quick to comfort you in difficult times. She was always available to listen without passing judgment. Everybody loved Peedee. She has a special place in the hearts of her family and her many friends. Family and friends will be invited to a celebration of Peedee's life at a future date. For those so desiring contributions may be made in her name to WWII Museum or a charity of your choice.

I am so sorry too! I am one of the many who loved Peedee, and indeed she has a very special place in my heart. I consider myself among the very lucky to have had all of those Peedee years. Much love to each of you. Cindy Lang

Dear Gamble family,

Please accept my deepest condolences. We who mourn are blessed with such wonderful memories. Peedee and Cameron truly were the Godparents of the Caledonian Society. Peedee's smile will live in my heart, with mental images of her doing Scottish country dances with her beloved Cameron.

With love and prayers from

Peedee was my favorite aunt. She was truly a great lady. I have the fondest memories of swimming in Cameron and Peedee's pool as a child with the rest of the Gamble kids and as an adult, she always had a smile on her face and was quick to put one on me. She will be greatly missed.

I fondly remember "clogging" with Cameron and PeeDee! They were so obviously devoted to each other and to thoroughly enjoying life and sharing their joy. PeeDee leaves a legacy of love and laughter for her family and friends to treasure. I sincerely hope that these memories will help family adjust and be able to smile.

I am sorry to hear the news!
I spent last night telling my boys stories of the years living next to the Gambles. The memories of Peedee and Mr. Gamble will always be with me and I will always have great stories to tell.
