Barbara Fryzek Obituary
November 14, 1935 - January 19, 2025
Visitation: Friday, January 24, 2025, 4 to 6 p.m., with Rosary at 5:30 p.m., Peterson Mortuary, 212 S. Locust Street, Glenwood, IA.
Mass of Christian Burial: Saturday, January 25, 2025, 10:30 a.m., Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 24116 Marian Avenue, Glenwood, IA.
Our beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, Barbara Jean Fryzek, 89 of Glenwood, IA, passed away January 19, 2025, in Council Bluffs. She was born November 14, 1935, in Harlan, IA, to Nels Peter and Rose (Christensen) Soe. She graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School, and obtained an R.N. from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Council Bluffs. She was united in marriage to Dr. Robert Kenneth Fryzek, MD on June 18, 1960, in Council Bluffs, IA. To this union five children were born; Robert Jr., Jon, Todd, Jana, and Matthew.
Barbara, known affectionately as Barb, enjoyed a rich array of hobbies including playing bridge, gardening, and most importantly, cooking and taking care of her family. Each holiday, she took great joy in decorating the house, both inside and out. Barb was sociable and loved entertaining guests. She was crowned the Glenwood Homecoming Outcast Queen and was an active member of numerous organizations including Holy Rosary Catholic Church, P.E.O., Garden Club, Mercy Hospital Guild, Glen Haven Guild, Glenwood Orchestra, and Henry Doorly Zoo Guild. Barb also served as the past president of the Pottawattamie-Mills County Medical Auxiliary.
Preceding Barb in passing were her parents; sisters, LaVonne (Carl) Jepsen and Darlene (Merle) Anderson; brother, LaRue (Margaret) Soe; and son, Robert Kenneth Fryzek, Jr. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Robert "Bob" Fryzek of Glenwood; children, Dr. Jon Fryzek of Baltimore, MD, Todd (Denise) Fryzek of Edina, MN, Jana (Mike) Roy of Phoenix, AZ, Dr. Matthew (Michelle) Fryzek, MD of Omaha, NE; grandchildren, Madeleine, Sam (Katie), Kaitlyn, Anita, Nathan, Claire (Steven), Nicholas, Christopher, and Katelyn; along with extended relatives and friends.
Interment: Glenwood Cemetery, Glenwood.
Memorial donations have been designated to: P.E.O. Scholarship, Mills County Historical Society or Glenwood Lake Park.

Condolences, Dr. Matt. Losing family members is the pits; especially moms. I never realized how deeply I loved mine until she was gone - hope it's different for you. I'm truly sorry for your loss. i got past it, but I'm still not over it, even now, twenty-five years later. God bless you and your family in this difficult time.

My condolences to Doctor Bob, Jana, Todd, Jon, Matt and spouses, and grandchildren. Barb was a lovely lady. She had class but still down to earth and friendly. I sure admired her. She must have had a lot of energy to keep up with five children. The cooking alone with four teen boys had to be hard work. I know Barb was proud of her lovely , only daughter Jana. It wasn't easy for a mom to see her daughter head for California. No doubt she loved and was proud of all her children's accomplishments. I heard about them all at coffee after church. Thinking of you all . Hugs.
