Burton Moad Obituary

Burton Lee Moad

July 8, 1948 - June 7, 2025

Burt Moad passed away at home on June 7th, 2025. He was born in Sac City, Iowa on July 8, 1948 to Gerald and Barbara Moad. He graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in 1966. There are rumors he knew something about a "special" locker in the old A.L. building.

Burt enlisted in the Navy and was a Vietnam War Veteran, serving on the Constellation and the Enterprise with the VF 142 squadron-the Ghost Riders. VF-142 won the Naval aviation safety award for 1969-1970. He worked for over forty years as a carman and foreman for the Illinois Central and Canadian National railroads in Council Bluffs, Cherokee, Sioux City and Fort Dodge in Iowa, as well as in Sioux Falls, South Dakota and Freeport, Illinois.

Burt and his wife Rebecca (McCallum) celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary on May 10th. They met as pen pals; their first in-person date was a high school prom.

Burt was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Gary. He is survived by his wife, his daughter and son-in-law Brandy and Todd Brooks, his brother and best friend Neal and his wife Sharon, of South Dakota, sister-in-law Laurel Moad of Illinois, many nieces and nephews, and best friends Jim Johnson and Richard Popejoy.

Burt loved our many English Bulldogs that passed before him. He loved the challenge of a good game of pool, and the adventure of a ride on his beloved Harley.

Have a good thought and pass it on.

From Brandy- There's always a shot, and sometimes you just get lucky.

From Becky-I will always love you, Burton. Just as much and a little bit.

No service will be held at this time. In lieu of flowers, please support your local humane society.

I met Burt back in 1994 at a local watering hole playing pool. I was a 'young whipper snapper' at the time just really beginning to learn the game. Burt had so much fun torturing us that were really starting the game. He took a shine to couple of us and would offer advice on what shots to play and open our eyes to the strategy of the game. I always enjoyed when 'The Old Man' showed up to play. It was usually a couple times a month when Burt would grace us with his presence. He reminded me a lot of my dad and grandfather. His military background probably had a lot to do with that. Haven't seen him in years, but I still play A LOT of pool in many of the same haunts we played in long ago. Rest easy my friend. Thanks for the memories buddy!!!
