Donald Heflin

1931 - 2022

Donald L. Heflin December 2, 1931 February 14, 2022 Donald Lee Heflin passed away peacefully on Monday, February 14, 2022. Don was born in Council Bluffs, IA and was a member of the Iowa National Guard and worked on the Union Pacific Railroad. In the early 1960's he relocated his family to California where he secured a job at Aero Jet Corp., employed to assist in assembling liquid rocket engines. He was then hired with the California State Highway Department (Cal Trans) as a Civil Engineer until his retirement in 1993, when he moved to Kentucky to further his Genealogy interests of his family. Two years later he settled in sunny Naples, FL. Enjoying retirement in Naples, FL. Don kept his passions alive with his continued genealogy, flying private and historic planes, and restoration of his beloved Classic Cars. His 1958 Chevy Impala, 1970 Chevy El Camino, and newly acquired Ford 1966 Mustang, all of which have been entered in car shows and have won awards. Don's 81st birthday was spent skydiving and his 90th birthday with his two daughters. He loved the Naples Pier, the concerts in the park and the culture of our local Philharmonic and live theaters. Donald is survived by his daughters, Vicky Lee, (Phil) Schmuck, Connie Jo Gray, Annette Leila (Lyle) Cheney, several grandchildren, great grandchildren, and his sister Janet Marie (Michael) Farewell. He is predeceased by his parents Donald Richard Heflin and Leila Bell (Gaskill) Heflin, mother of his children Vera Speight, and his youngest daughter Barbara Jean Heflin. A celebration of life memorial service was held on March 6, 2022 following the Naples Concert Band performance at Cambier Park. Internment will be in Council Bluff Iowa. Don, God has you in his arms.
