Dorothy Levenhagen Obituary

Dorothy

Adkins Levenhagen

March 31, 1936

February 16, 2024

Dorothy Adkins Levenhagen, of Fremont, NE, passed away peacefully on February 16, 2024, at the age of 87.

Born March 31, 1936, in Council Bluffs, Dorothy was the daughter of Dean Adkins and Hattie (Kadereit) Adkins. Dorothy was a 1954 graduate of Abraham Lincoln High School, Council Bluffs. Shortly after graduation she met and ultimately married Donald E. Levenhagen, of Vincennes, IN, on June 21, 1958. They were blessed with six children.

Dorothy and Don moved to St. Louis, MO, where Don was studying at the Missouri Synod Concordia Seminary. In 1959 as a new minister's wife, Dorothy relocated with Don to serve churches in Almond, WI, and Shelbyville, IN. In 1966 they relocated a final time to serve at Trinity Lutheran Church, Fremont, where they made their "forever home".

As a young farm girl, Dorothy helped on the farm by driving tractors, taking care of livestock, and doing anything that helped with the family farm. This background is what rooted her love and passion for gardening. From vegetables to LOTS of flowers, she was in her happy place every time she touched the soil. She also loved to bake and make her famously sought after scotcharoos. Most of all she loved family events, going to her beloved Council Bluffs spending time with her sister, Carol, and attending her grandchildren's many activities.

Dorothy's working years included Mutual of Omaha, in home daycare, Hormel cafeteria, Trinity Lutheran Church Daycare, and many election years in the Dodge County Clerk office.

Survivors include her sons, Timothy (Jasy) Levenhagen, of Fremont, and Donald D. (Ginger) Levenhagen, of Indianapolis, IN; daughters, Becky Dabkowski, of Greencastle, IN, Beth (Scott) Doht, of Lyons, NE, Kris (Greg) Kavan, of North Bend, NE, and bonus daughter, our #7 Stephanie Buchholz, of Elkhorn, NE; 21 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren; sister, Carol Adkins McKinley; brother-in-law, Fritz (Joyce) Levenhagen; sister-in-law, Linda Canada; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Don; son, Mark Levenhagen; grandchildren, Jeremy Hobson, Matthew Doht, Jacob Levenhagen and, Lakynn Rief; brothers, Robert Adkins, Richard Adkins, and Leroy Adkins.

Visitation will be Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel in Fremont, from 4 to 7 p.m. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1546 N. Luther Road, Fremont, Nebraska. Memorials are suggested to the Trinity Lutheran Early Childhood Center, Fremont.

We were sorry to hear about the loss of your mother/grandmother. We knew her through church. She was a big part of starting and working at the early Childhood Center. She had faith, energy, and a good sense of humor!
