June 15, 1935 - April 30, 2025
Phyllis I. Root, age 89, of Crescent, Iowa, passed away April 30, 2025, at Jennie Edmundson Hospital. Phyllis was born June 15, 1935, in Neola, Iowa to the late George and Geraldine (Ostdiek) Delanty. She married Billie Lee Root on May 2, 1959. Phyllis was self-employed, providing commercial and residential cleaning services. In addition to her parents, Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Root in 2007; son, Robbie Root; grandson, Colton Benson; siblings, Patricia Schlautman, Jeanette Blair, and Gary Delanty. Phyllis is survived by her children, Randy (Nancy) Croson, Terrie (John) Graves, Cheryl Schellin, Kim (Kerry) Zaloudek, Kevin (Cynthia) Root, Russell Root; 12 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Donna Anderson, Kay Brownfield, Karen (Frank Hickey) Allen, Connie Hook, Pam (Ralph) Cruz; many nieces and nephews.
Visitation with the family, Monday, 6 to 8 p.m., at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Bayliss Park Chapel. Funeral service, Tuesday, 11 a.m., at the funeral home. Interment St. Patrick's Cemetery, Neola, Iowa. A lunch will follow at the Walnut Hill Reception Center, 1350 E. Pierce St. in Council Bluffs. The family will direct memorial contributions.

I am sorry to learn of Phyllis' passing. I went all through grade school at Crescent with Phyllis and her siblings. She will be missed by many.
