Ruth Joan Cambridge

Ruth Joan Cambridge, 91 of Glenwood, Iowa, passed away at home on Monday, May 26, 2025.
Ruth was born on June 5, 1933, in Brayton, Iowa, the daughter of Louie and Hilda (Rathkamp) Henningsen. She attended country school in Audubon County and graduated with the Class of 1952 from Atlantic High School in Atlantic, Iowa.
Ruth and Edward Francis Cambridge were united in marriage on September 10, 1955, at the Evangelical & Reformed Church in Atlantic. She followed Ed during his service in the United States Navy, where they lived in Coronado, CA, Vallejo, CA, New London, Conn., and Key West, Fla. After his discharge, they lived in Wichita, Kan., and Chanute, Kan., while Ed worked in construction, then lived in Omaha, Neb., in the 80's in Honolulu, HI, before making Glenwood their home while Ed worked for Leo A. Daly. They established Cambridge Sons Construction in Glenwood.
Ruth was a busy wife and homemaker. She was a member of the Underwood Hills Presbyterian Church, a Sunday School teacher, a Summer School teacher, and a Cub Scout Den mother. Ruth served on the Parent Advisory Board for the Westside School District, a volunteer naturalist teacher at Fontanelle Forest, a 20-year volunteer at the Mills County Storehouse, and a member of the P.E.O. Chapter F. A cook and hostess, artist and sculpture, gardener, and "Goose Lady", all come to mind when thinking of Ruth. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and a good friend to all who knew her.
Ruth had a great interest in nature and bird watching. She enjoyed traveling with Ed, visiting many locations throughout the world: Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, Bangkok in Thailand, Kuala Lumpur and Kota Kinabalu in Malaysia, New Zealand, Australia, England, Scotland, France, Monaco, Portugal, and Madeira Island.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Louie and Hilda Henningsen; sisters, Dorothy Hoegh and Betty Hare; and brothers, Howard and Harold Henningsen.
Ruth is survived by her beloved husband of 69 years, Ed Cambridge of Glenwood; sons, John (Joyce) Cambridge of Lincoln, Neb., William (Jackie) Cambridge of Omaha, Neb., and Paul (Sonja) Cambridge of Glenwood; eight grandchildren, Sarah Cambridge (Ashley), Mason Cambridge (Kelly), Jacob Cambridge, Amy Cambridge (Mikhaela), Quenton Marquez (Dora), Miller Cambridge (Stacia), Taylor Jane Doll (George), and Baker Cambridge (Ihret); 5 great-grandchildren, Isabella Cambridge, Emery Cambridge, Hudson Cambridge, Nora Cambridge, and Madeline Cambridge; sister-in-law Lisa Cambridge of Des Moines, Iowa; other relatives and a host of many friends.
