Steve Dyson was born on March 17, 1950, in Ames, IA, and passed away on May 25, 2024, in Urbandale, IA. He was born in Ames, at Mary Greeley Hospital on March 17, 1950, to Robert and Shirley Dyson. Steve was a 1968 graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School. While attending there he worked summers at Ballenger Automotive and the Union Pacific Railroad. After graduating, Steve attended Iowa State University with a degree in Sociology in 1972. He went to work for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad, Celanese Chemical Company, Standard Car Truck, Ruan, XPO Transportation, retiring in 2017 from Wells Fargo in West Des Moines, IA.
Steve met the LOVE of his life, Paulette Rindone, while attending high school in 1966. Both Steve and Paulette went their separate ways for several years, but in February 1976 they found their way back to each other and were later married on November 26, 1976. Steve and Paulette were blessed with three children, Brandi Brown–Hibbert (Larry), Amanda Halbur (Jason), and Travis Dyson (Heather). They were also blessed with three granddaughters, Schey Brown, Kennedy Midkiff, and Mackenzie Halbur; as well as a stepgranddaughter, Marisa Young. They were later blessed with a great-grandson, Aaron Poole; and a stepgreat-grandson, Braylin.
He was always quick with a joke and quick to make everyone around him smile or laugh. Steve loved talking sports with anyone. A favorite pastime of his was attending the Iowa State Women's State Basketball Games with Paulette. Whenever loved ones would say love you, a common response from him was love you more back to them and always gave you a big hug or a fist bump goodbye, but no matter what, you knew you were loved when around Steve.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Shirley; and his brother, Jim.
Steve is survived by his brother, Ron Dyson (Terri), Sandy Briggs (Barry) and his lovely wife Paulette Dyson and their kids; grandkids, and great-grandkids. Visitation with the family, Thursday, 5 to 7 p.m., at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Bayliss Park Chapel. Memorial service, Friday, 11 a.m., at the funeral home. Inurnment, in North Grove Cemetery, Hastings, IA. The family will direct memorial contributions.
