William Knotek Obituary

William "Bill" David Knotek, died March 27, 2007, in Dallas, Texas, after a long and brave struggle against chronic lymphocytic leukemia.

Born May 28, 1949, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, the son of Milan James and Gladys (O'Connor) Knotek. He was graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in 1966, and he attended the University of Iowa, where he enjoyed himself thoroughly. Bill proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Chicago.

He married the former Bobbie Fry on November 15, 1975 in Council Bluffs. Their 31-year-marriage produced two daughters, Karlyn Nelson and Lacy Knotek.

Bill was a dedicated and trusted software professional who worked for several grocery companies, including Hinky Dinky and SuperValu in Omaha and Tom Thumb in Dallas. In 1987 he joined the software company, Dallas Systems Corporation, as a vice president and worked in various executive roles for this company and its successors, EXE, SSA Global and Infor. Both collegues and customers highly respected Bill for his integrity in business, his dedication to people and his commitment to quality. Bill was a person who people wanted both to work with as a respected associate and to spend time with as a trusted friend.

In addition to his wife and children, Bill is survived by his mother, Gladys Knotek of Council Bluffs; siblings, Sharon Curry of Natick, Mass., Larry Knotek of Council Bluffs, Mary Lou Pfeiffer of Council Bluffs, Michael Knotek of Tucson, Ariz.; and Jim Knotek of Kansas City, Mo.; lifelong friends, John Herzog of Omaha, Neb., and Steve Spitznagle of Council Bluffs; his beloved companion, Bailey, a chocolate lab; golf buddies, coworkers and a host of other family friends. His father preceded him in death.
