Alfred CORSO Obituary

CORSO Alfred , 80, a resident of Henderson Nevada died on June 30, 2010 at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House. He was born in Brooklyn, New York and spent his youth in Edgewater, New Jersey. While attending St. Cecelia's High School he played football under the then Coach Vince Lombardi who rightfully became his mentor. Football played a major role in his life. He played running back as an enlisted man attached to the 101st Paratrooper Division of the Army. After discharge he graduated from Austin Peay College in Tennessee and began a career in Education and Coaching which took him to Tennessee and New Jersey. He and his wife, of 44 years, Carolyn, retired to Drakes Island, Wells , Maine. There he continued his love of gardening, often growing more than the family could consume. However neighbors and friends reaped the benefits of his labor. Always an animal lover, the property was fenced with brightly colored birdhouses (each telling a charming story). He supported his wife's love of the Standardbred horse and they went on to breed their mare continuing her lineage by including Beach in each of the offspring's names. In 2004, they reluctantly sold their property in Wells and moved to Nevada but returned each summer to Maine. A celebration of his life will be held at a time to be announced. To offer words of condolence, sign a guest book and share memories, go the obituary page at www. independentdeathcare.comArrangements are under the guidance of Independent Death Care, 660 Brighton Avenue, Portland, Maine.

My condolences to the Corso family. What a nice person he was, so patient and really cool. He was my Drivers Ed teacher (1973). He helped all of us in the car get over being scared and just to enjoy the ride...
May he be riding all over heaven in peace at last.

To the family of AL Corso, you have my deepest sympathhy. I played left guard on Saints football team.Al was my team mate. Mickey Ryan and I tried to block the way for AL. I still cherish the memory of us beating Englewood 27 to 0.
Al gave 120% all the time. He also had a great sense of humor, everybody loved him at Saints. Vince Lombardi had lasting effect on all of us who played for him. I know Coach and Al are working on plays right now in Heaven.

You were one of the best teachers in the Physical Education Department. A sweet man among some of the "noisy bears". Never knew about your life before teaching @ Paramus High School. It's an honor to read and it was an honor to know you and have you as a teacher. May your family find peace during this time.
