Anthony SARLO Obituary

SARLO Anthony 79, One of the Good Guys, born on August 24, 1931 at Hackensack University Medical Center to the late Charles and Filomena Sarlo; passed away at 12:47 AM on August 29, 2010.Anthony Sarlo graduated high school as a three sport lettermen from East Rutherford High on June 19, 1949. After graduation he answered his country's call and entered the United States Army and served overseas during the Korean War. Upon completion of active duty in 1954 at the rank of Private First Class, his military service continued as an Army Reservist until he was honorably discharged on July 1, 1960.Anthony worked as a pipefitter for many years for Trubek/UOP. He was also a construction field supervisor for over 24 years at L&L Mechanical Design Company in East Rutherford, NJ before he retired in 1995.A Wood-Ridge resident for over 50 years, Anthony was an active member of the VFW Post 3626 of Wood-Ridge and a parishioner of Our Lady of Assumption of Wood-Ridge.Anthony, a semi-pro bowler, was a member of the Bergen County and State of NJ Bowling Associations and in tournament play bowled a perfect 300 game and achieved 18, 700 series.An avid sports fan and athlete he turned in energies to coaching and coached over 15 years as a Little League and Babe Ruth Baseball Coach. In his later years he took great pride in mentoring and teaching his grandchildren in their sporting endeavors. He will always remain a legend on the softball diamonds of South Bergen County for his years of umpiring.Anthony will always be remembered for instilling leadership, honesty, discipline, and respect in his children.Anthony is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, the former Providence Munofo, formerly of Carlstadt and his sister Marie Basso of East Rutherford.Anthony is also survived by his four children; Diane Montalto and her husband Stephen of Woodcliff Lake; Charles H. Sarlo and his wife Nicole of Washington Township, Senator/Mayor Paul A. Sarlo and his wife Concetta of Wood-Ridge; and Councilman Thomas A. Sarlo and his wife Michele of Little Ferry.. He is the proud grandfather of nine children, Stephen, Alyssa, Autumn, Anthony, Gianna, Michael, Nina, Isabella and Charles. Anthony is also the brother of the late Gerald Sarlo of Toms River, NJ.Funeral 9:30 AM Wednesday from Kohler Funeral Home, 280 Hackensack St., Wood-Ridge, Mass 10 AM Assumption R.C. Church. Entombment Holy Cross Cemetery. Visiting Monday 5-9 PM and Tuesday 3-5 and 7-9 PM. Donations to American Heart Assn., 1 Union St., Robbinsville, NJ 08691 and/or The Wood-Ridge Emergency Squad, Humboldt St., Wood-Ridge, NJ 07075 would be appreciated.
