Barbara Moss Obituary

MOSS Barbara, longtime resident of Upper Saddle River, died peacefully at home Friday, July 27, 2007 after a four-year battle with cancer. She was 66. While growing up in New York City, Barbara found a love for photography that she turned into a career when her family relocated to Westwood, New Jersey. Barbara worked in the darkroom at The Record where she met her husband, The Record's Photo Lab Chief, Maurice "Murray" Moss in the late 60's. Maurice Moss died in 1987 at age 67. Barbara was a darkroom technician at New Jersey News Photos in Newark, and later became Head Photo Librarian at the Star-Ledger. Barbara's amazing photography research skills lead her to work on books about the history of Newark, Elizabeth and the Union County Historical Society. She was also very involved in her community, the USR Girl Scouts, PTO, and the Upper Saddle River Library. She touched the lives of everyone who knew her with her caring smile and will be forever missed. Barbara is survived by daughter Laura Moss Heppolette of Upper Saddle River, sister Linda Anstett of Little Ferry, son-in-law John Heppolette of Upper Saddle River, and two brothers, Charles Anstett of Ridgefield Park and John Anstett of Florida. Plans for a memorial service have not yet been finalized.

If there is happiness in my heart
It’s because you helped put it there
If there is gentleness in my beliefs
It’s because you showed me how to care
If there is understanding in my thinking
It’s because you shared your wisdom
If there is a rainbow over my shoulder
It’s because of your outlook and your vision
If there is a knowledge that I can’t reach out
And really make dreams come true
It’s because I learned from the best teacher of all,
I learned from you
You will always be my very best friend

Your Mom was such a special, loving person. I remember when we worked together and she always had a smile and the right answer.

Our Christmas party when we had the Kareoke was the best- She had sooo much fun that night.

May she rest in peace, and my God smile on her soul. She will be missed.

Barbara was one of the most optomistic people in the world. I had the privilege of knowing her for about 20 years. I never saw her without a smile or a good word. The guy upstairs has called home a person he sent to earth to be an example for all of us.
