I was devastated to hear of Cassie's passing. I was fortunate to have been able to work with her in the summer of 2008 at a summer program at Crane. Truly one of the most giving and compassionate people I have ever met. She was an example of selflessness. And I know Crane will not be the same without her. She has inspired me to be a better person.

Words cannot describe how completely sad I feel. Cassie and I met at years ago at Marquette. Throughout the years she has always kept in touch and been such a great friend. She was such a terrific, kind and loyal person and friend. I will miss her so much. My thoughts turn to her sister, brother and parents.

Words fail. Cassie has done so much for so many. And with such a positive spirit. Not even the CBOE could get her down. Teaching, coaching, camping in the rain, all for kids. Many a time I'd be complaining, she'd laugh the situation off. Unless a child was hurting. Then she got serious. Many will miss her. I do already. She always replied to my emails. Thank you, Cassie, for all you did.

I met Ms Mazz, when my son attended Crane 2002-2006. She was very helpful when he graduated and went on to college. I was thinking about her this past holiday season, but forgot to ask my son if he had spoken to her recently. I was devastated when he called my with the news of her passing. I'm sure her family is heartbroken, but they also have some peace knowing that she was loved by many, and she strived to help the children at Crane as much as she could.

To know Cassie was to love her. I had the privilege of not only working with her at Koz (now Lozano) but spending a summer traveling through Guatemala and Honduras with her. One of my favorite memories is when we were at Tikal. After trampling through the ruins all day, and planning to stay for two nights, Cassie--always engaging--started a long conversation with one of the groundskeepers about the environment and the wildlife in the jungle. Before the conversation ended Cassie had gotten him to agree to wake us at 5AM so we could see the forest waking up. What a glorious experience. As he led us around the grounds we saw (and heard) monkeys staking out their territories, different kinds of birds waking up and calling to each other, and Cassie, always enthusiastic Cassie, was translating every word so I wouldn't miss anything.
She has been taken from us much too soon, and I will miss her.

To Ms. Mazziota you were really great to us and the only regret is that I couldn't tell you how much of an impact she had on us and thru the years I always had a great appreciation of the good things she thought us. You will be miised but you forever will be in our hearts.

Cassie Mazziotta continually worked to help other people and to get students to care about other people through volunteer work. She worked with the Chicago Cares organization and she has brought students to volunteer at several homeless shelters, the Greater Food Depository in Chicago, homes for mentally disabled adults, and senior citizen centers. If she were here today, I KNOW that she would organize efforts to assist the Hatian relief effort, so when you donate money or organize help at your church, school, or job, think of her.

Ms. Mazz as the students would say, was a loving and caring woman who always took care of her students. I will always remember the extra effort she took in helping people young and old. I will especially remember the excitement on the P.E.A.R.L.S. faces when she took them on a trip, to help host a Halloween party which they recieved service learning hours as well as an experience of a life time. She will always be apart of the students of Crane. May you be blessed forever in his heart.

To Cassie's Family, I was privileged to have met Cassie through my good friend and hers, Anne Ward. Whenever we had a get together, Cassie was always there with her smile and great conversation. She was one of us, the IHMer's or Counselites, depending on the gathering. I am shocked and sadden that God has brought her home and left us with a hole. Time will heal the pain, but Cassie has left an indeliable mark on all of us. Cassie you will be missed.

Cassie was a beautiful person inside and out. I remember when I was a little girl, she would be over at my grandparents house (The Bardowski's) for most holidays and birthdays. We would talk about her experiences with teaching and traveling while she played with my hair. I remember knowing at quite a young age that she was a hero. She liked to take the impossible, and make the best of it. Cassie, you are so loved and will be dearly missed! The people who are losing you as part of their lives, I pray for. Friends, Family, Co-workers, Students and many more I am sure.
