David Rae Obituary

David L. Rae

San Diego, CA - 79, formerly of Ridgewood, NJ, passed away November 23, 2020 from complications of Parkinson's Disease in Encinitas, CA. He was born May 13, 1941 in Washington, DC to Gene G. and Catherine M. Rae. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Kathleen, sons Christopher (Courtney) of Park City, UT, Patrick (Petrea) of Farmington, NY, daughter Caitlin Rae Laipenieks (Maris) of San Diego, CA, unofficial son Robert Keino of Eldoret, Kenya, sisters Lucy Rae Ricciardi of Greenwich, CT, Catherine Rae Reed of Denver, CO, and Dr. Mary Rae Arnold of Oakland, CA, and six grandchildren, Dylan, Grayson, Poppy, Camden, Isabelle, and Gavin. David graduated from Archbishop Stepinac HS in White Plains, NY (1959), Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA (1963) and Georgetown Law Center in Washington, DC (1967). David began his legal career initially as a patent attorney with ICL in Letchworth, England and then with Holophane in NYC and Airco in Montvale, NJ. After Airco was acquired by The BOC Group, David became an Associate General Counsel and transitioned to the practice of corporate law at BOC until his retirement in 2005. After retirement, he also briefly practiced corporate law at Matheson Tri-Gas, Inc. in Parsippany, New Jersey. A committed advocate for civil rights, David served for more than 25 years as the President of the Fair Housing Council of Bergen County, NJ. David was also an avid golfer who played golf for more than 60 years and a devoted sports fan of the NY Mets, the Washington Redskins, and Ridgewood High School. Sometimes despite his better instincts, he became a world traveler, accompanying his wife Kathy on numerous trips to such faraway places as South Africa, Patagonia, the Amazon, India, China, New Zealand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Russia, Estonia, Spain, Italy, France, Ireland, and throughout the British Isles. Contributions in David's memory can be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research (https://www.michaeljfox.org/donate) or to the Fair Housing Council of Northern New Jersey (https://fairhousingnj.com/get-involved).

Dear Kathy I was thinking of you and David recently and I am sad to learn via an internet search of David´s death. You were lovely neighbours all those years ago in Letchworth and I remember with fondness the children, the house and the pets. Mummy loved your company. I remember visiting you in Ridgewood too, with a very unsuitable boyfriend! You were generous hosts. I hope the children are doing well and I send you all my love and best wishes, Vicky and Cyril ( sadly deceased) would have wanted that.

I am a friend of Caitlin and feel like I knew David through the fond memories of her dad that she shared. And a fellow Mets fan makes him even more loved. My condolences to the Rae family on their incredible loss. ❤

I know Caitlin and I know how much she loved and admired her father. That alone tells me that his loss is all our loss. Much love and peace to Mr. Rae family, friends and loved ones.
