Dora Kauflin Obituary

Dora Kauflin

Wyckoff -

Dora Kauflin passed away peacefully at the age of 98 on October 29 enclosed with love from her large family. Born in Biel, Switzerland to Emma and Friedrich Christener, Dora came to the United States as a child. She graduated from Paterson Central High School and met her husband William in the Swiss Turnverein, a gymnastics club. They moved to Wyckoff in 1942, where she and Will had a small farm and raised their seven children and a lot of Beagles. Dora enjoyed weekends in the Catskills and was a skilled knitter, (mostly disappointed) Giants fan, avid reader, and wily card player. She worked in the Eisenhower and later Ramapo High School cafeteria for 23 years, retiring at age 71. Dora was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Allendale and the Wyckoff Seniors. A strong and independent woman, Dora travelled extensively throughout the United States and Europe. Her greatest love was spending time with her family. Dora was predeceased by her sweetheart and husband Will, much-loved sons Bill and Jeff, and dear grandson Dusty. She is survived by her children Marilyn Zeller (Port St. Lucie, FL), Elaine and husband Harry Popewiny (Mount Vernon, OH), Bob and wife Jody (Telluride, CO), Rich and wife Julie (Boulder, CO), Gail and husband Brian Scanlan (Wyckoff), daughters-in-law Lou and husband Paul Stehle (Ramsey) and Joan and husband Jim Aspero (Huntsville, TX), 19 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, six great-great grandchildren, and canine companion Sammy. Visiting hours are 10-11 a.m. on Nov. 17 with a funeral service following at Trinity Episcopal Church, 55 George St, Allendale, NJ 07401.
