Dorothy Miner Obituary

MINER Dorothy M. (O'Driscoll), 72, of New York City, died October 21, 2008. Survived by her brothers Robert Dwight Miner, DDS and his wife Virginia of Montvale, NJ and Richard Thomas Miner, J.D. and his wife Gail of Sparta, NJ. Loving aunt to Jeffrey Miner, Cynthia Kadelke and Catherine Hartenstein. She was predeceased by her husband James E. O'Driscoll in 1993. Dorothy graduated from Smith College and Columbia Law School (From 1975-1994). Dorothy was Counsel to the NYC Landmarks Preservation Commission. Since 1995, she was an Adjunct Associate Professor at Columbia University teaching Historic Preservation Law. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, October 25, 2008 at 9:30 AM at the Corpus Christi Church, 529 West 121st Street, New York, NY. Visitation, Friday, October 24, 2008 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the C.C. Van Emburgh Funeral Home, Ridgewood. Interment, private. In lieu of flowers, donations to The Advocate for New York City's Historic Neighborhoods, 232 East 11th Street, NY, NY 1003 or The Dwight C. Miner Scholarship Fund, Columbia University, 2960 Broadway, New York, NY 10027 in her memory would be appreciated.

My Dearest Sympathies,

Dorothy was my professor at RPI and loaded me up with the most important cases in preservation. Her dedication and love for the field gave me the energy and drive to stay in it. Her wit and charm was one of a kind. She will be missed.

Dorothy was beloved by her Preservation Law students in the graduate program in building conservation at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute's School of Architecture in Troy, New York. Her wisdom, insight, and patience brought her students to new levels of understanding of preservation issues and legal intricacies. She will be greatly missed.
