Douglas Ackerman Obituary

ACKERMAN
Douglas S. of Oakland, died Friday, March 30, 2012. Born in Paterson, NJ, he lived in Hawthorne and Lancaster, PA, before moving to Oakland. He was a member of Calvary Church, Lancaster, PA, and a former member of Hawthorne Gospel Church, Hawthorne, NJ. Before his retirement in 1978 he was Food Director for Lancaster Bible College, and prior was a short order cook for several diners in the Bergen County area. Surviving are his children, Joyce DePow of Sante Fe, NM and Carol and her husband George Bosma of Wyckoff, NJ. Also surviving are his five grandchildren, Douglas, Timothy and Laura DePow and David Bosma and Sandra Bottge and his five great-grandchildren, Matthew and Kevin Bottge and Timothy, Nicholas and Briana De Pow. He was predeceased by his wife Elizabeth in 1993 and a brother, Fred Ackerman in 2003. Visiting Monday, 9:30 – 11 AM at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, www.vpfh.com, 257 Godwin Ave. Wyckoff, NJ 07481, followed by a Funeral Service at 11 AM. Interment private at Mellengers Mennonite Cemetery, Lancaster, PA. In lieu of flowers, donations to Eastern Christian School Association, 50 Oakwood Ave., North Haledon, NJ 07508 would be appreciated.
