I just happened to be doing some research and found out Elaine is gone. Rest in Peace Elaine. Thank you for being the first reporter that cared enough to report on the Pompton Lakes Vapor Intrusion contamination back in 2008 that was finally became public news. You were a great lady and gone now but never forgotten. Rest peacefully.

Elaine fell into journalism almost by chance -- her first choice was social work -- but turned out to have right range of varied talents for a long and distinguished career in journalism. Not just smart, resourceful, creative and hard-working but warm, generous, witty, humorous and concerned for others. She was equally at home covering breaking deadline news or writing feature stories and weekly columns. In all she always found compelling human stories and told them with style, compassion and often with wit, humor or a sense of justice. She interviewed both movie star Ginger Rogers and serial killer Joseph Kallinger and was able to find useful insights into the humanity of both. For me, her reporting and writing exemplified not only her own personal qualities but also the best qualities of constructive human-centered journalism. I will miss her.

Rest In Peace, Elaine. A great lady and a great reporter, who did so many great columns and stories. But it's a funny one that I particularly remember, because you had us in stitches recalling your time riding around Hoboken in a limo -- with Fabio!

Elaine was a beautiful and generous person. I worked with her at the Record for several years and I was always impressed by her hard work, humor, and passionate engagement with life.
And she covered her beat like nobody's business....
May she dance with the angels this day and always.
